The GBCM is pleased to invite you to a sharing session –Technology for cities and precints: City Science Application Framework.
Rapid urbanisation at an unprecedented rate brings rising challenges that urban governance has to address including economic inclusiveness, increased resource consumption, environmental degradations, surging housing needs, new physical infrastructure, to name a few.
Urban planning needs to reinvent itself to improve land and resource allocation. Mobility is becoming a major concern as associated economic and health costs are rising. The lack of affordable housing with basic necessities is an issue. The pressure on food, water and energy resources is also mounting steadily. Cities face a myriad of urban challenges. City science aims at addressing and resolving various urban challenges. As a novel inter-disciplinary field, city science carries an enormous potential to address urban problems systematically and also scientifically.
We have the privilege to welcome Dr. Okan Geray who is the lead for the City Science Application and for Circular Cities for the United 4 Smart Sustainable Cities (U4SSC), a UN initiative co-ordinated by ITU, UNECE and UN-Habitat, supported by 14 UN agencies and programmes.
Join us for a discussion to learn about how apply the City Science Application framework to solve complex urban challenges.
Several case studies will be discussed. They include City Science Applications such as the happiness meter of Smart Dubai, the air quality management system in Southern California, crime prediction in Rio de Janeiro, flooding control in Amsterdam, fine dust filtration in Stuttgart, data driven energy savings in Queensland, the use of trust based AI in smart cities, Rashid city concierge of Dubai.
