This World Mangrove Day, we’re highlighting the incredible benefits of mangroves for climate, communities, and nature: 🐠 Mangroves are vital for biodiversity, offering breeding and nursery grounds for fish. 🌊 They protect coastlines and communities from rising sea levels, storm surges, and erosion. 🌱 Mangroves store significant amounts of carbon, helping to combat climate change. Unfortunately, mangroves are disappearing three to five times faster than global forests. Through Climate Resilient by Nature, an Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade-funded initiative in partnership with WWF-Australia, we’re supporting high-integrity Nature-based Solutions in the Indo-Pacific. 🌏 Mangroves are a key example of how protecting and restoring these ecosystems can enhance biodiversity, boost food security, and build resilience to climate impacts. Explore our project page to see how our partners are making a difference with Nature-based Solutions. 🌟 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gwCkKmzK 🔗 #Mangroves #NatureBasedSolutions #WWFAustralia

Australia's iconic animals, including koalas and greater gliders, are headed for extinction. Over 1,900 species are at risk due to inadequate nature laws. The Senate has the power to change this. With stronger protections, we can save our unique wildlife from disappearing. We can’t do this alone. Send a message to our Senators and urge them to strengthen these laws. Together, we can make a real difference. Don't let our precious wildlife fade away. 👇 https://lnkd.in/gWR5KUVs 🐨

Brigida lives in Baucau municipality, Timor Leste and recently planted 100 saplings including orange, rambutan, mango, jackfruit, mahogany, moringa, and ipil-ipil trees on her farm with the help of her community. 🤗 Brigida uses a drip irrigation method (pictured), which helps ensure the survival of the saplings in the dry season and when access to water is limited. This is part of a project with Caritas Australia and Catholic Relief Services that harnesses agroforestry as a nature-based solution. 🌱 Agroforestry involves the intentional planting and maintenance of trees in agricultural landscapes. The injection of new trees has incredible benefits including reducing erosion and risk of landslides and helping to sequester carbon. In the face of a changing climate, agroforestry practices can also help communities enhance the health of the broader ecosystem and build resilience of food systems. 🌏 Read the blog to learn more about this project and Brigida’s story: https://lnkd.in/gTg6ktXU 💚 This project is supported by Climate Resilient by Nature (CRxN), an Australian Government initiative in partnership with WWF-Australia. ✨

🌿 It’s time we had robust legislation to protect our forests and wildlife. Stand with us and demand change before it’s too late. 🔴 Our native forests are in danger due to legal loopholes. These forests, crucial for endangered species like the greater glider, are being logged for wood products despite the extinction crisis and climate emergency. This critical habitat isn’t adequately protected, highlighting the urgent need for stronger nature laws. As professionals dedicated to sustainable futures, it’s our responsibility to advocate for policies that truly safeguard our environment. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gzzCDR2G #WWFAustralia #SaveOurForests

🌏 The journey to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from iron and steel production is crucial for limiting global warming. As one of the top suppliers of iron ore, coal, and fossil gas, Australia has a unique opportunity to lead by example and work together with our trading partners in decarbonising this vital sector. 🌱  Steel decarbonisation brings challenges and exciting opportunities. Imagine Australia at the forefront, creating a 'green iron key' — an innovative, low-emission industry that helps our neighbours decarbonise their steel supply chain. 🌿🔑  We’re excited to invite you to our latest report launch: "Australia’s Green Iron Key: Unlocking Asian Steel Decarbonisation, Securing Australia’s Economic Future." Join us in person or online to help drive this green revolution forward. 🚀   📅 Date: 31st July 10:00 am – 12:00 pm AWST   📍 Location: Engineers Australia, L 10/77 St Georges Terrace, Perth WA 6000   👉 Register here: https://lnkd.in/gUSphq_h

🚨 Australia’s unique wildlife is in danger. Weak laws are allowing forests to be logged, pushing over 1,900 species, including koalas and greater gliders, to the brink of extinction. Our environmental laws, including the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act, are failing to protect our wildlife and the places we love. 💚 We need stronger nature laws to safeguard our biodiversity. Join the campaign to demand change. Together, we can close the loopholes and protect the precious wildlife that calls Australia home. 🐨 Sign the email to senators here: https://lnkd.in/gWR5KUVs Your voice matters.
