Last week, we had an inspirational and insightful event of the Dutch chapter of the European Association of Communication Directors (EACD). Kees Boef, Corporate Affairs Director at Royal Schiphol Group reflected on the #crisis situation which started with long queues at the airport on the first day of the May holidays, post COVID. The situation further deteriorated as a perfect storm consisting of many other #issues (environmental challenges, political and societal adversity, legal issues, capacity and quality issues, etc.) had been developing in the background, and which came to the surface at the same time.   Kees shared with the participants his perspective on how Schiphol communicated during these challenges and how they managed to regain control with #credibility and #decisiveness. A key part of their solution was adopting an adjusted approach to their suppliers and their employees, neighbors, Schiphol employees and many other stakeholders. In addition, Schiphol decided to take a number of firm decisions to reduce its negative impact on neighbours and the environment, and took a more prominent role in shaping public opinion. From the start, Kees and his Corporate Affairs department were deeply involved in both the response strategy as well as the operational execution. We closed off with drinks and networking at a sunny terrace outside.
