🚨Today Changing Markets Foundation published a groundbreaking report that exposes the tactics used by Big Meat and Dairy – alongside their powerful trade groups – to derail climate action worldwide🚨 Key findings include: 📢 Extensive lobbying to block climate policies 🤥 Greenwashing and weak net zero targets 📲 Targeted disinformation campaigns to Gen Z 💰 ‘Unproven technofixes’ that taxpayers foot the bill for 🍏 Delaying much-needed transition to more plant-based diets This investigation underscores the urgent need for stricter legislation and transparency in the meat and dairy industries. 🗳️Members of the EU Parliament have re-elected Ursula von der Leyen for a second term as President of the European Commission Although weakened, von der Leyen's re-election based on her political guidelines reaffirms the continuity of the EU Green Deal and provides the EU institutions with a clear mandate to tackle the triple climate, biodiversity and pollution crisis. While the commitment is there on paper, we need more than just implementation. The strong focus on climate cannot come at the expense of necessary actions against the biodiversity and pollution crises, as these issues are intrinsically interlinked. Only by addressing triple crises together can we achieve climate neutrality Our press reaction here: https://shorturl.at/12ScT
Von der Leyen gets a second term, so does a weakened Green Deal …

💥 European Court of Auditors warns that EU hydrogen targets are unrealistic and need a reality check! 👋 We've been saying this for years! 📈 The EU's oversized hydrogen plans seriously threaten the bloc's public finances and decarbonisation efforts. 🚀 Why? No other technology has experienced such rapid growth as planned by the EU for hydrogen production. All this despite concerns about its environmental impact, cost, and readiness. 🤔 Why gamble Europe's decarbonisation on unproven and expensive pathways when viable alternatives are ready? Direct electrification and renewable energy, combined with enhanced energy efficiency in buildings, industry, and transport, can decarbonise our energy systems faster and cheaper. ⚠️ The European Commission should reconsider its hydrogen production scale for 2030 and learn the lesson to face the hype around Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS) and Small Modular Reactors (SMR). 👉 Read our OpEd: https://lnkd.in/daYkqKBi 👉 Check out our policy briefing: https://lnkd.in/eA-uPzYh

However, powerful lobbies are now attempting to depict it as a hindrance to food and energy security🛑 ⏸ Calls for a 'pause' in environmental action risk pushing both nature and our economies to the brink. We urge EU leaders to combat climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution by reinforcing the European Green Deal for a Nature-Positive Europe by 2030🌍 These proposals from the European Habitats Forum aim to make nature great again 💚 📄 👉 https://lnkd.in/g63KWJtR
