About us
PathoSense is a spin-off from Ghent University and developed a complete sample-collection-to-diagnostic interpretation platform for infectious diseases in veterinary medicine using nanopore sequencing. Without prior knowledge, a full overview of all pathogens in a sample can be given. We are currently scaling this platform by setting up partnerships with veterinary diagnostic laboratories in Europe. Furthermore, PathoSense is an Oxford Nanopore Technologies Certified Services Provider and we offer fast and complete bacterial whole genome sequencing, microbiome analysis and viral whole genome sequencing. We are not just a sequencing provider but want to understand your question and help you in the best way possible to obtain biologically meaningful insights from your data.

Dankzij PathoSense kan je zonder voorafgaande selectie alle virale en bacteriële ziekteverwekkers in beeld brengen bij acuut zieke dieren. Je kan bij ons terecht voor de monsternamekit, bijhorende analyse, ophaling en transport van het monster. Onze regiodierenartsen staan bovendien steeds voor je klaar om de resultaten te analyseren en een oplossingsgerichte aanpak uit te bouwen. Op deze manier kan het het hart infecteren en sterfte bij zeugen veroorzaken. Het virus wordt ook verspreid naar de foetussen en veroorzaakt doodgeboorte, mummi¬ficatie en embryonale dood. Increased detection of feline panleukopenia virus in sheltered cats in the Netherlands, reported by "Stichting Zwerfkatten Nederland" and Utrecht University. The PathoSense diagnostic test can diagnose this virus very easily and can also detect complicating coinfections. Moreover, it can give potential insights into the presence of mutations. Would be insightful if we can see if the strain is evolving in certain VP1/VP2 amino acids. PathoSense is already available in the Netherlands (Royal GD) & Belgium (Dierengezondheidszorg Vlaanderen - DGZ). https://lnkd.in/e6QXr8Wb

Mycoplasmopsis pulmonis in horse 🐴 Mycoplasma pulmonis, an infectious bacterium was found in a horse with respiratory disease. Symptoms include coughing, nasal discharge, and pyrexia. Transmission occurs through respiratory secretions. Diagnosis involves clinical signs and laboratory tests. Treatment typically includes antibiotics and supportive care. Preventive measures include vaccination and maintaining optimal stable conditions to reduce the risk of infection among horses. 🌿♻️ Did you know that Oxford Nanopore Technologies flow cells can be returned and recycled? ♻️🌿 By returning used flowcells from PathoSense to Oxford Nanopore Technologies, they are able to recycle some of the electrical components, helping to minimize waste and reduce the carbon footprint. As you see, we have been working quite hard in the past few months and filled quite some containers. There will be a lot of recycling possibilities! 😅 Together, we can make a difference for the planet. 🌍💚
