This week, we treated our residents to a sweet surprise! Local ice cream trucks visited over 20 of our buildings, serving up free frozen treats. It was a fantastic way to beat the heat and build community spirit. What's even sweeter? Some of the proceeds are going to great causes! In Red Deer, the Red Deer Food Bank Society ice cream truck served our residents ice cream, with proceeds benefiting the food bank. In Saskatoon, Generation Love Project handed out sweet treats, with proceeds supporting their programs for underprivileged youth. This month, we had the pleasure of surprising one of our long-term residents, Barbara, with a $200 grocery gift card as a token of our appreciation! Barbara’s journey with us began at Angela Manor, where she had a wonderful experience. However, as her needs changed, the building no longer suited her lifestyle. When we acquired new properties that better fit her needs, Barbara happily moved and continues to thrive in her new home. Barbara is a true advocate for our community. She frequently shares her positive experiences with neighbours and offers helpful information whenever needed. Her proactive and positive feedback is always valued, and her survey responses speak volumes about her satisfaction. 🎉 🤠 It's always a great time at Avenue Living Communities! Our residents in #Calgary got their yeehaw on at our recent Stampede event hosted at Glenmore Gardens and Elata. The atmosphere was full of excitement and community spirit! Residents enjoyed a barbeque lunch provided by the amazing team at Spolumbo's Fine Foods & Deli, followed by a sweet treat from The Ice Cream Truck. Zenbase brought their team to connect with residents and TELUS handed out flowers, adding beauty to the event. Eagle Feather Entertainment’s lively music set the perfect tone, encouraging everyone to dance, play games, and create lasting memories. Carol H., our Marketing Manager, summed it up perfectly: “It was a stomping great time hanging out with residents on a hot sunny day, filled with entertainment and fun times at the Wild West Fest!” This fantastic event was not just about fun but also about fostering a strong sense of community among our residents. This month, we had the pleasure of surprising one of our cherished long-term residents, Barry, who has been with us for an incredible 27 years! Barry is a true gem in our community, always looking out for the property and its inhabitants. Whether he’s tending to his beautiful garden or walking his elderly neighbour's dogs, Barry’s kindness and commitment shine through. 🌻🐾 Despite being in his suite for nearly three decades, Barry keeps his home so immaculate that it looks as though he moved in just a few months ago. "Deal with people how you would want them to deal with you," says Gord M., our Vice President of Customer Experience, offering his golden rule for customer service. "If you were in their position, how would you want to be treated? Keep that simple rule in mind and you'll do pretty well." Gord joined Avenue Living Communities in 2021 and quickly became a cornerstone of our organization with his recent promotion to Vice President of Customer Experience. He has over 38 years of experience in the customer service sector and has significantly shaped our internal Customer Experience Centre, creating a space where his team members can thrive. “The main thing I did when I got here was change the leadership structure. I wanted to provide more support for the call centre team," Gord explains. He introduced a tiered system made up of Customer Experience Representatives (CERs), Senior Customer Experience Representatives and Managers. This new structure ensures each team member has the guidance they need. He also emphasized the importance of career paths. "I wanted to set up a structure with the opportunity for growth—a chance to come in as a customer experience representative, move to a senior role and ultimately a manager role." This clear path for advancement motivates the team and ensures future leaders are cultivated from within the organization. Creating a positive and dynamic team environment is one of Gord’s most significant achievements. He believes in the power of a diverse workforce and says, "Avenue Living Communities gives everybody opportunities. If you have the right skill set, there are lots of places you can grow." For those aspiring to excel in customer service, Gord's advice is simple but effective. He suggests, "Watch and learn from others but take a chance. Sometimes you have to get out of your comfort zone. Trust your gut feelings and listen." His journey from a shy kid to an outgoing and supportive leader showcases the impact of embracing new challenges and opportunities.
