Last week, we had the opportunity to present three seaweed portrait films at two venues alongside Todd Paige from the World Wildlife Fund. We were thrilled with the turnout and the highly engaged audiences! These films feature seaweed farmers from diverse places and backgrounds, yet they all share a common theme, #hope. They demonstrate that making the world a better place is possible and that seaweed cultivation is a key part of the solution! The stories of Ana, Nick, and Matt are inspiring and highlight the positive impact of seaweed farming on both the environment and local communities. If you haven't had a chance to watch these short films yet, we encourage you to grab some popcorn, set aside 30 minutes, and immerse yourself in their journeys! 👏 Well done to all involved! 👏 Thank you to Todd and WWF for the opportunity to participate! 🎥 Watch here: https://lnkd.in/dmP2ykXQ _____ Ana R. A huge day for us today! Introducing the world’s first sugar kelp infused peat-smoked whisky. Crafted in limited quantities, this groundbreaking whisky merges Vancouver Island’s terroir with the merroir of sustainable seaweed cultivation. The foundation of this extraordinary spirit lies in our newmake spirit, already celebrated globally for claiming the coveted title of 'World's Best' at the prestigious World Whisky Awards in London. This accolade underscores our commitment to unparalleled quality and craftsmanship. Marking the expansion of 'The Peat Project', this historic release invites you, whisky enthusiasts, to explore this innovative expression alongside our existing Peat Project whiskies. Available exclusively from the distillery at $109.99 per bottle, this limited-edition whisky can be purchased online https://lnkd.in/gu-vYChG Learn more: The infusion of sugar kelp, sustainably farmed off the British Columbia coast by Cascadia Seaweed in partnership with coastal First Nations, adds fresh maritime aromas and sweet smoke. Cascadia Seaweed’s dedication to sustainable cultivation enhances local ocean ecosystems, utilizing only sea and sunlight to nurture their crops. Graeme Macaloney PhD, PEng, drawing on traditional peat-smoking techniques learned in his ancestral Islay, Scotland, sourced the peat from Washington State, reflecting a unique Canada-USA collaboration. Matured in Dr. Jim Swan’s Portuguese red wine Shave-Toast-Rechar barriques, the whisky unfolds with layers of red berry, caramel-toffee sweetness, and deep oak notes, complementing its creamy mouth-feel, juicy malted barley, and tropical fruit profile. The infusion of peat and sugar kelp introduces bonfire smoke, heather, and maritime notes, finishing with a hint of salt. This whisky embodies both the terroir of Macaloney’s Island whisky and the Pacific Northwest’s merroir of Cascadia Seaweed. Terroir, encompassing soil, topography, and climate, imparts a distinct taste and flavour, while merroir, rooted in seaweed’s local conditions, enriches the spirit’s unique character. Grab a bottle and taste for yourself. https://lnkd.in/gu-vYChG

Kelp forests are among the most productive ecosystems on Earth, however, due to warming ocean temperatures, pollution, and other human activities, these crucial marine habitats are facing a global decline. Cascadia Seaweed has developed Canada's first commercial solution for kelp restoration: the Green Gravel Production System (GGPS). This innovative mobile nursery, housed in a 20-ft shipping container, enables users to grow kelp on landscaping gravel, which can then be released into the ocean to restore lost or degraded kelp habitats. The team at Cascadia Seaweed is very proud to see this project featured in Innovation Magazine, the official publication of Engineers and Geoscientists BC. This issue showcases projects by Engineers and Geoscientists BC registrants that exemplify environmental stewardship and collaboration with Indigenous communities — both of which are embedded into Cascadia's core values. 🌎 Happy World Oceans Day from the team at Cascadia Seaweed! 👋 (Many team members were in the field and couldn't join us for our annual World Oceans Day photo op.) No matter where we live, we are all connected to the ocean. It's the lifeblood of our planet, providing oxygen, regulating climate, and supporting diverse marine life! Since 2019, Cascadia Seaweed has been dedicated to enhancing the natural environment while supporting economic opportunities for Indigenous coastal communities through seaweed cultivation. Our mission has grown to address the broader imperative of seaweed’s role in ocean ecosystems. Seaweed is essential for producing oxygen, capturing carbon, and providing habitat, yet natural stocks are declining due to climate change. By growing seaweed on low-impact ocean farms, we can meet the demand for seaweed-derived agricultural products while conserving wild populations. Over the past five years, Cascadia Seaweed has gained global recognition for our expertise in seaweed cultivation, from farm design to harvesting techniques and value-added product development. We now extend our expertise globally through consultancy services, offering innovative solutions in seaweed restoration, climate resilience, and biodiversity monitoring. 🤔 Have a project in mind? Reach out to our Nature-based Solutions team via info@cascadiaseaweed.com! It's World Environment Day. It's also the day that "we all join forces to give nature a helping hand" and restore the lands of our precious Mother Earth. Cascadia Seaweed is a commercial company, and, to us, success means prioritizing the health and well-being of people and the planet. By embracing this approach, we can help provide solutions to challenges — from climate change to food security — that affect each and every one of us. Our cultivated kelp is transformed into agricultural inputs that help farmers increase yields and reduce emissions. One of our products is a liquid biostimulant designed to regenerate soils and bring them back to life. We are proud to lend a hand.
