Since commissioning the South Crofty Mine Water Treatment Plant last October, we have pumped and treated approximately 2.5 million cubic metres/two billion five hundred million litres of mine water – this is the equivalent of 1,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools, or for those that live locally, it is comparable to treating half the volume of Stithians Reservoir! Over the last 10 months, we have intercepted and removed the following quantities of metal from solution, ensuring they do not enter the Red River: - 100 tonnes of iron - 12 tonnes of manganese - 4 tonnes of arsenic The images demonstrate the improvement in water quality in the Red River before treatment commenced (picture 2) and 6 months after the treatment plant has been operational (picture 1). The mine dewatering programme and associated treatment process is just one component of our wider commitment to minimising the impact of South Crofty on the environment and our community. #watertreatment #cleanwater #sustainability #community #southcrofty #cornwall

Shaft refurbishment work and dewatering continues at South Crofty. Last week saw the delivery of our Phase 2 shaft work platform, which will enable us to speed up the replacement of the old shaft timbers in New Cooks Kitchen shaft with new steel guides. For the last 8 weeks our crews have been working from the recently installed main cage to remove old timbers, scale, mesh and re-bolt the top section of the shaft. The new platform will stay in the shaft and provide a safe, stable work platform, working its way down from the collar to the very bottom, 770 metres below. The platform is accessed and serviced by the existing main cage, which is used to transport personnel and equipment down to the platform and bring the old timbers out. Really great work by the whole team at South Crofty, the platform arrived on Thursday last week and was installed and commissioned in just 4 days. Thanks also to @IME Consultants (IMEC) for designing and fabricating the platform and @SIEMAG TECBERG UK Limited for designing and commissioning the communication systems and main cage modifications.

Critical minerals, and the clean technology and energy sources they enable present a generational economic opportunity. Earlier this week Canada published its updated list of #critical minerals, and it retains all 31 minerals from the 2021 list (which includes #tin) and adds 3 additional minerals. https://bit.ly/3Rre8Ts Critical minerals are the foundation on which modern technology is built upon. They’re used in a wide range of essential products, from mobile phones and solar panels to electric vehicle batteries and medical applications.

We are looking for a Mine Electrician to join our team at #southcrofty in #Cornwall. The main dewatering pumps at South Crofty are operational, and with the water level lowering in the mine, the focus is now on accessing the deep underground workings, using and refurbishing the historic New Cooks Kitchen Shaft. The newly commissioned sheeve wheels on the iconic headframe are turning once again, hoisting the main conveyance required to access the workings with personnel and materials. Currently, approximately 2km of mine workings are actively operated and accessed from the Tuckingmill Decline. These workings are being utilised for our ongoing feasibility study works, including ongoing diamond drilling programmes. Maintaining and operating these workings requires ongoing electrical support, which will increase considerably as we dewater more of the mine workings. Significant new infrastructure has been installed to enable access to the deep workings of the mine, including a new 11kv network, a new single drum winding engine, an emergency egress winder, and two cages. These upgrades and developments require a competent and motivated electrical team to install, manage, maintain, and repair our systems on-site in a safe and efficient manner.
