The Mass Appraisal Valuation Symposium (MAVS 2024), organized jointly by the International Property Tax Institute (IPTI) and the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO), took place last week on June 26 & 27. From insightful presentations and engaging panel discussions to valuable networking opportunities, MAVS 2024 was an incredible platform for sharing knowledge and advancing the field of mass appraisal. International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) President Rebecca Malmquist, CAE, SAMA joined International Property Tax Institute (IPTI) President Paul Sanderson to open the two-day virtual Mass Appraisal Valuation Symposium, presented by #IAAO and the International Property Tax Institute (IPTI).

Great job, gentlemen! Big takeways from their talk: The importance of adhering to Responsible AI tenets and of using a human-centered approach when deploying AI at your office. For our office, it's about making sure any AI we deploy is not making things up out of thin air. We would not tolerate our humans doing that, so we certainly would not tolerate AI halluncinating data either. It's also about leveraging the power of these tools in specific ways. I like to consider it an assistant on many of my own tasks. AI like ChatGPT is proving valuable when it comes to analyzing data, creating and troubleshooting programming, and generating text for emails, letters, and presentations. #artificialintelligence #reponsibleai #ai #chatgpt #technology

We were delighted to host Paul Sanderson, President of the International Property Tax Institute (IPTI) during his recent visit to IRAS. 🙌   IRAS-Property Tax Division (represented by Assistant Commissioner of PTD and Tax Director of PTD-Commercial Branch) has contributed to IPTI’s new international collaboration project and we have benefitted from the numerous resources shared, helping us to widen our perspectives and gaining new networks.   During Mr Sanderson’s visit, we exchanged views and insights on current trends affecting the valuation practices and the use of modern technology, among others.    We look forward to further enhancing Singapore-IRAS’ future collaborations with IPTI.

Pleasure to host Mr Paul Sanderson, President of International Property Tax Institute (IPTI) at Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS). IPTI is an independent, not-for-profit organisation formed by industry experts from around the world to promote and foster property taxation and asssessment ideals on an international scale. Mr Sanderson, a former CEO of the Valuation Office Agency (4,000 staff UK Executive Agency), was very kind to conduct a workshop and roundtable discussion with colleagues from our Property Tax Division. His insights on international trends, best practices in other jurisdictions and key developments in the space of property valuation and assessment were most illuminating. In my private chat with Paul, I also introduced my other role as CEO of Tax Academy of Singapore and explored ways to collaborate in training and development.
