Every Child Matters. On September 30 – the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation - ConeTec’s Canadian team will join thousands of people across the country in wearing orange to honour the survivors of Residential Schools and their families. Alongside our northern Alberta partner Mikisew Group, we proudly continue our tradition of wearing buttons designed by an Indigenous artist. This year’s artist is Raegan Powder. We commit to continuing our efforts to learn more about the original people, their culture, traditions, and the history of colonization. We believe education is the first step to being better allies to indigenous people and the communities we work with. Below are some of the resources we have shared with our team, and that you may find helpful. Attention University of Alberta students in Engineering, Geology, and Geophysics, Mikisew Group and ConeTec have launched the Mikisew-ConeTec Wîcêw Award, a new scholarship at the UofA. Wîcêw (weesow) is a Cree language word meaning to come along or to support. A total of four awards will be given each year, two reserved for students with indigenous heritage, one reserved for women, and one general application – each valued at $2,500. The awards are based on academic achievement and community service. We are excited for these awards to be available to students this fall. Stay tuned for more details on how to apply! _ 📸 Award signing ceremony held at Elko Engineering Garage on UofA campus, with Dallas McGowan (Vice President, Oil Sands & Mikisew-ConeTec), Aaron Lepine (Indigenous Relations Advisor - Mikisew Group) and Ivan Fair (Vice Dean, Faculty of Engineering, University of Alberta - Deans Office).
