About us

White River Forest Products (WRFPL) is a private corporation that owns and operates a sawmill and Sustainable Forest License (SFL) located in Northwestern Ontario located at White River, Ontario. WRFPL was conceived and founded by the Township of White River and the Pic Mobert First Nation who purchased the sawmill assets from Domtar. WRFPL is a community based company that is owned by private investors, Pic Mobert First Nations and the White River Economic Development Corporation. WRFPL has commenced a multi-million dollar re-investment program and has restarted operations on October, 1, 2013. Direct employment at the mill for production, management and administration is approximately 140 positions. WRFPL is working proactively to maximize hiring from the local communities and is also committed to supporting the Pic Mobert First Nation to establish a harvesting contract operation that will employ Pic Mobert band members and seed new enterprises based in the First Nation. Other harvest contractors will also supply wood to the company. A crew contracted through the Pic Mobert First Nation’s development corporation, White Lake Resources Corp., is on site providing support and employing people from White River and the Pic Mobert First Nation. The White River sawmill complex is centrally located within the White River SFL area and is known for its ability to produce high quality lumber products from wood sourced from forests in the local and surrounding region. Job description Develop short and longer-term plans for the delivery of quality, cost appropriate roundwood fibre, to the White River Sawmill. Enact as part of a small agile team those plans while reacting to a dynamic setting. Provide oversight where warranted for ongoing forest activities throughout the supply area of the White River Forest Products Sawmill. • Adopt White River FP values, principles, as your own. • Follow all laws and regulations as applicable. • Reports to Manager – Forest Operations Responsibilities • Promote and contribute to a safe workplace and work environment. • Provide direction to, contractors, and suppliers while maintaining communication within the team. • Develop and maintain rapport with outside agencies, other forest users, and management. • Participate in regular planning pertaining to budget development, and cost control. • Drive the activities of the woodlands operation to proactively maintain delivery targets, quality of wood fibre and wood supply to the White River Sawmill. • Prepare harvest schedules, production statements and forecasts. • Report performance against cost estimates, harvest forecasts etc. • Understand sources of variance from planned operations and explain deviations. • Adapt and provide insight/ideas for improvements in a changing workplace. • Coach and mentor employees to facilitate individual growth and performance. • Efficiently, through organized planning, ensure all weather roads and bridges are constructed as specified in the Woodlands Annual Plan. • Ensure that the gravel road system is maintained through inspection and coordination of grading, snow removal, bridge repair and other activities. • Lead annual roads program submissions and reimbursements. • Comply with corporate policies, procedures, programs, and legislated regulations with respect to health, safety, and the environment. Requirements • Education: University Degree in Forestry or equivalent relevant work experience. • Proficiency with digital reporting systems, analysis tools, reporting and modeling software. • Experience: Must have 2 plus years in a similar role.
