A 🐔 or 🥚 question for you: What should HR and business leaders focus on first, employee engagement or employee experience? If you’re looking for fast ROI, Jacob Morgan, 5x best-selling author, believes it starts with the employee experience. Why? He uses the analogy of tuning a 🚗. The employee experience, like an engine, is the driver behind performance. So, HR and business leaders, if you’re looking to rev up your team’s performance, it’s time to focus on the employee experience: what employees, see, hear, believe, and feel about all aspects of their employment – from onboarding to offboarding. Every touchpoint of the workplace matters. Here are some important touchpoints and strategies to enhance them: 1. Recruitment: Keep the process transparent and communication lines open. An easy way to scale this behavior is to outline your hiring process in the job description! 2. Onboarding: Your onboarding process is your first impression. Do your new hires have the tools and information they need to ramp up? A great way to ensure this is to assign an onboarding buddy. (This will help them build connections with their peers, too!) Launching 30, 60, and 90-day surveys is also helpful to gain helpful feedback from a fresh pair of eyes. It’ll also show that their perspectives are important to you. 4. Performance: To boost performance, you need to set up your people for success. Offering manager enablement (one-to-one meeting templates; performance review guidelines) will ensure your people have clear goals. 5. Growth: People stay at companies where there are opportunities to grow. Offering L&D budgets and Pro-D days are a great start. We also recommend creating and tracking personalized learning paths through a Learning Management System (LMS). 6. Offboarding: This touchpoint is often overlooked, but old employees can have a big impact on your employer brand. Leverage your internal communications to show appreciation to employees who are moving on. These areas of the employee lifecycle all make up the employee experience. Tune up each touchpoint and consider your workforce turbocharged.
