The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) was launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with partners, GAIN aims at making healthier food choices more affordable, more available, and more desirable. GAIN’s purpose is to improve nutrition outcomes by improving the consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially the most vulnerable.

Last week, the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) launched IFPRI’s 2024 Global Food Policy Report on Food Systems for Healthy Diets & Nutrition in #Nigeria. The event was attended by Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, Honourable Minister of State, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security; Senator Mustapha Salihu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture Production Services and Rural Development; representatives of key government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies; UN Agencies; donors and development partners; and other key national stakeholders. The report presents #policy and #governance solutions to strengthen #DietQuality and #nutrition in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). It examines priorities for future research on food systems for better nutrition. Hyacinth Edeh, Country Program Manager, IFPRI-Nigeria, delivered a special focus on #Africa. At the same time, a dynamic panel featuring experts like Temitope Adegoroye, Nuhu Kilishi, Mercy Lungaho, and Abass Yusuf explored ways to improve diets and nutrition in Nigeria. Dr. Michael Ojo, Country Director, GAIN Nigeria, highlighted the need to support the Nigerian government and stakeholders at all levels in leveraging the Nigeria Subnational Food Systems Dashboard to guide national nutrition plans and improve diets. While SMEs play a substantial role in bringing foods to market, their success is hindered by several constraints, including a lack of financial and technical capacity to improve and grow their businesses. Years in the making, N3F is ready to invest. It's a commercial fund that makes short - and medium-term loans to companies in nutritious food value chains located in any sub-Saharan African country with a moderate risk profile.
