We started our Direct Action Hemmersbach Kids’ Family back in 2019 to give children from difficult backgrounds the chance to create their own brighter future, no matter their prerequisites. One of our first measures was to build and run a container school in the Ramamurthy Nagar slum in Bangalore, India. Now we had a small, but nice re-opening celebration with cake, music and stories after giving the container school a necessary refresh. After the renovation, the container school will again be a place where more than 70 kids from the slum have a safe and supportive space to do their homework, where they get a nutritious snack, and just be kids. The school also serves as a distribution center: From here, we provide more than 350 households living in the slum with fresh drinking water, clothing, school supplies for the children and other essentials. With our Direct Action Hemmersbach Rhino Force we are saving rhinos in South Africa from extinction through poaching. AI-supported trap cams enable us to identify potential threads at a very early stage. As soon as our system detects intruders, we start the operation: drones take off, our vehicles rush to the scene, rangers go out with barking tracker dogs – an immediate show of force and presence. We either chase them away or arrest them, definitely prevent them from getting anywhere close to the rhinos.
