Digitalisation on the road to zero carbon: innovations in energy management 🌍 On the road to achieving zero-carbon, the key challenges and opportunities lie in optimising energy management. In the context of sustainable heating solutions, effectively forecasting the available heat supply and dealing with the volatility of renewable energy sources, as well as preventing energy losses by precisely matching production to demand at any given time, are important aspects. The answer to these challenges is #digitalisation. 💡📊 Using the power of advanced analytics and artificial intelligence, we are implementing solutions that transform energy management systems, making them more efficient, reliable and sustainable. The experience gained by colleagues from E.ON Energy Infrastructure Solutions, E.ON and E.ON Polska during the successful implementation of the Optiheat project for the comprehensive optimisation of district heating networks is being used to support the digitalisation of the Celsium Sp. z o.o business unit in Skarżysko-Kamienna. The aim was to develop a load forecasting model that predicts total consumption and production demand for five consecutive days, thus enabling efficient energy management. Green light for the cross-border UNITED HEAT project! 🌍🔥 SEC Zgorzelec got approval by the CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency ✅ The project, which is the result of close Polish-German cooperation, has the objective of decarbonising the heat supply and achieving climate neutrality of the district heating networks in Zgorzelec and Görlitz. 🤝 SEC Zgorzelec, part of the Szczecińska Energetyka Cieplna Group within the E.ON Energy Infrastructure Solutions sector, together with its German partner Stadtwerke Görlitz AG, are key participants in this initiative. We are pleased to announce that the European Commission has given a positive assessment to our application for funding under the Connecting European Facilities (CEF) Cross Border Renewable Energy (CB RES) programme. The funding covers both the design expenditure and the implementation of the first phase, which includes the construction of a biomass heating plant in Zgorzelec, a section of the line connecting the CHP plant in Görlitz Königshufen to the sewage treatment plant in Görlitz, and the integration and expansion of sewage gas storage facilities. Grzegorz Bicki, CEO of SEC Zgorzelec, emphasised: ‘Everyone is striving for the same thing: to make a significant contribution to climate goals with this project and to design the heat supply in the partner city of Zgorzelec/Görlitz in a sustainable and future-proof manner.’ Octavian Ursu, Mayor of Görlitz, added: ‘We are very pleased that the European Commission has approved these funds. This is a clear sign that the EU appreciates the importance and supra-regional attractiveness of our project, thus paving the way for further steps in close cross-border cooperation between Görlitz and Zgorzelec.’ The UNITED HEAT project is a pioneering endeavour and the first climate-neutral district heating network project of its kind to receive funding from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). E.ON UK is helping shape Sheffield’s future.   Our district heating network, Blackburn meadows, is helping Sheffield reduce its carbon emissions for a cleaner energy future, and we’ve submitted plans to double its size. This expansion would allow connections to new customers and potentially tap into new sources of low-carbon heating that might otherwise go to waste.   A system delivering heat to homes and workplaces is an alternative to gas boilers. A concept which includes sector-coupling and sustainable energy concept for the Sugar Valley neighbourhood in Munich!   Together with SALVIS Consulting AG, we are developing a sustainable, fossil-free and cross-sector energy supply concept for the new Sugar Valley neighbourhood in the south of Munich. On an impressive area of 150,000 m² in three construction phases, we are creating a pioneering model of energy supply:    ✅ 100% CO₂-free heating and cooling supply  ✅ LEED Platinum certification  ✅ Horizontal filter well  ✅ 37,000 m² of geothermal floor slabs  ✅ 600 thermal activated bored piles  ✅ Reversible heat pumps, P2H, photovoltaic systems    What do we aim to supply?  - Heat output: 6,300 kW  - Heat quantity: 5,290 MWh annually  - Cooling capacity: 8,000 kW  - Cooling quantity: 5,270 MWh annually    Highlight: Currently, the largest project development in Munich, fully climate-neutral with extensive e-mobility infrastructure, including roughly 1,300 parking spaces equipped with comprehensive charging facilities.    Bayernwerk Natur will take over the construction and operation of the plants. E.ON's first biogas plant in Poland is nearing completion! 🌱 The biogas plant is being built in collaboration with Biowatt S.A. - Eksperci od biogazu and will be launched by the end of 2024. The facility will use agricultural biomass and biomass from food and livestock production. After the fermentation process, the residues will be transformed into high-quality digestate, also known as organic fertilizer, which is an ideal material for soil fertilisation and irrigation. By applying the digestate to the fields in the vicinity of the biogas plant, the carbon footprint associated with its transport will be reduced. 🌍🚜 In June, the cogeneration unit and the transformer station, which are the heart of electricity production at the biogas plant, were installed. At this point, the construction work has been largely completed. All process vessels - both for fermentation and for the so-called digestate - have been constructed. The next stage of the biogas plant's development will be related, among other things, to equipping its infrastructure, as well as the construction of a substrate reception hall," said Bartek Asztemborski, Project Manager on behalf of E.ON Polska. What benefits will a biogas plant bring? 🔋 the facility with an installed capacity of 1 MWe in high-efficiency cogeneration will operate continuously, i.e. 8,200 hours per year, for 15 years, 🏭 the expected production of green electricity is approximately 8 GWh, which will cover the energy needs of, for example, a small industrial plant, 🔥 a by-product of the process will be the heat generated. CEO of E.ON Business Solutions Polska Jakub Roszkiewicz emphasises that this initiative demonstrates a commitment to leveraging international expertise in biogas technology, based on the success of installations in Germany and Denmark, where E.ON has a significant share of the biomethane market. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲🌍   The new EU legislative term, future trajectories of the energy sector and the requirements to manage the energy trilemma were in focus at the Vertretung des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen bei der Europäischen Union in Brussels last week!   At this special event, we from E.ON Energy Infrastructure Solutions had the great opportunity to present our innovations #IQEnergy and #ectogridTM on one of our interactive tables to a top-class audience of around 100 representatives of the European Parliament – milestone solutions to accelerate the decarbonisation of cities and industries. We were able to show that we have developed real #greentech to drive the energy transition forward and emphasize the huge potential that lies in the #heattransition. An exciting panel discussion with Leo Birnbaum, Enrico Letta and Ann Mettler on the future of the #energy sector: Top of the future agenda definitely has to be the investment in green tech, #innovation and #infrastructure, while energy transition and economic growth must go hand in hand.
