🆕 A new biomarker shows potential to evaluate treatment response for metastatic colorectal cancer Researchers collaborating through the #CARE and #ProCURE programmes of Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) and Institut Català d'Oncologia (ICO) respectively, have identified the protein CXCL13 as a promising biomarker to evaluate the response to oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy in metastatic colorectal cancer patients. This discovery offers a potential tool for clinicians to personalise treatment plans, reducing unnecessary toxicities and enhancing patients' quality of life. Dr Eva Martínez Balibrea, leader of the Resistance, Chemotherapy, and Predictive Biomarkers (RCPB) group at IGTP and ICO: "We are making progress in the search for predictive and prognostic markers. Finding a potential biomarker with non-invasively extracted samples is great news. We will continue this line of research in future studies." 🆕 New cellular models of myotonic dystrophy type 1 reflect the clinical diversity of the disease Cellular models used to search for new therapies for myotonic dystrophy type 1 do not usually take into account the diversity of subtypes presented by patients. In a study published in the journal iScience, researchers from Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP), in collaboration with University of Belgrade, Biogipuzkoa and Institut de Myologie, have developed three new models that represent this heterogeneity. 🆕 As a strategic initiative under IGTP, GCAT - Genomes for life continues to make substantial contributions to public health knowledge. The latest GCAT study, conducted through the #COVICAT initiative and signed by Ximena Goldberg and de Cid Rafael, sheds light on the complex interplay between genetic predispositions and environmental stressors in determining depression risk, especially during the COVID-19 lockdown. Published in Scientific Reports (Springer Nature Group). 📊 Key findings: - Social and behavioural stressors identified as main contributors to depression risk. - Comprehensive risk model explains 16.9% of the variance in depression severity. - Potential buffering effect of environmental stressors on genetic predispositions. 🗣 "The findings from our study highlight the importance of considering both genetic and environmental factors when addressing depression risk," says Rafael de Cid. "This comprehensive approach allows us to develop more effective public health interventions that can mitigate the impact of depression on our communities." 🔗 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/d4P4_8HZ Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) Instituto Hospital del Mar de Investigaciones Médicas (IMIM) Agència de Qualitat i Avaluació Sanitàries de Catalunya (AQuAS) #CIBERESP #CIBERSAM #MentalHealth #COVID19 #PublicHealth
