This is an interesting corner in Spain you may enjoy exploring as a Landscape Architect if you are visiting Zaragoza. Parque del agua Luis Buñuel: This 120ha park is the legacy of the 2008 Water Exhibition in this city (an exhibition with a water and sustainability theme) This urban park is one of the biggest parks in Zaragoza. Its design was aimed at connecting the public with the iconic Ebro river, celebrating and revitalising a portion of it as it meanders through this city creating opportunities for new uses and enjoyment. This was a multidisciplinary project by architects Iñaki Alday and Margarita Jover and landscape architect Christine Dalnoky. Zaragoza is a city with a challenging growing environment with cold winters and very hot summers. A good selection of species that grow and adapt well in this harsh climate is key in providing water sustainable amenity and appeal. This urban park features: - A meander with a forest including 25000 trees and 40000 shrubs. Within the trees, there are riparian species like poplars nigra and alba, willows and ash trees layered with other urban species. - A natural filtering system using grasses and reeds. - Prairies. - Parcelled gardens dedicated to traditional horticultural species such as olive trees, grapes and lavender, exotic and urban species. - A riparian aquarium. - Various sculptures. - A beach and channels with boats - Leisure activities. - Connecting path network. - A restricted area to visitors focused on providing habitat to birds https://lnkd.in/gmFmEZXv

🌟Exploring Florence Airport's Innovative Terminal Design✈ #Florence Airport's upcoming terminal is set to redefine airport architecture, boasting a 19-acre rooftop vineyard seamlessly integrated into the picturesque Tuscan landscape. This article delves into the key features, #sustainability efforts, and the global trend of #airports evolving into destinations. The construction, slated to commence this year and conclude in 2026, marks a significant step towards a unique travel experience. Designed by Rafael Viñoly Architects, the terminal's central Italian-style "piazza" beneath the green roof ensures a streamlined flow for arrivals and departures. Skylights in 38 rows of living vineyards not only provide ample natural light but also offer breathtaking views. Continuing his father's legacy, Román Viñoly emphasizes the symbolic choice of a vineyard, reflecting the essence of Tuscany. Positioned strategically on the roof's eastern side, the vineyard contributes to the airport's sustainability. Rooftop vineyards provide insulation, aligning with the airport's commitment to eco-friendliness. Local solar power further reinforces this commitment. In a global trend, airports are transcending their traditional role, becoming destinations in themselves. Román Viñoly underscores Florence Airport's pivotal role in this transformative shift. The redesign aligns with international airports embracing innovation, offering travelers more than mere transit points, but rather unique and enriching experiences. As we contemplate these exciting developments, it's essential to consider their implications for the future of airport design. How might this trend influence other airports worldwide? Can the integration of natural elements redefine our travel experiences? Engage with these questions to envision the future of air travel. One of Barcelona´s Modernist buildings has been abandoned for a number of years. After a lengthy restoration, it is now open again to the public. It is the Ciudatella´s Hivernacle, located in the park with the same name. Built at the end of the 19th century, it was designed by architect Josep Amargós i Samaranch. Originally, it was built to grow crops and exhibit rare plants brought from the colonies. The efforts to keep this building open were too costly and 14 years ago, the building closed its doors. After years looking for the most sustainable way to preserve this building, it has now reopened to the public. https://lnkd.in/dStR3Sma #catalanmodernismbuildings #architectureinbarcelona #apartamentrenovation #modernismarchitecture #barcelonaarchitects #flatrestoration #reformasbarcelona #renovationbarcelona #barcelona #expatbarcelona #flatrenobarcelona #styleyourspace #barcelonaarchitecture #architectbarcelona #dreamhomebarcelona #barcelonacity #ciudatellashivernacle Barcelona City Council Generalitat de Catalunya Museu Blau - Museu de Ciències Naturals de Barcelona

Introducing BIOTONOMY's Vertical Forest - a Nature Based Urban design we are developing for one of Spain's major cities. This innovative wooden structure merges gardens, forests, and parks into a single multi-functional green space and serves as a wildlife sanctuary to safeguard diverse species and preserve biodiversity. The Vertical Forest addresses urban challenges by creating spaces for nature, relaxation, and community interaction. The ground floor offers a plaza for quick nature breaks and large community gatherings, while the first floor encourages smaller groups to connect with Nature. Deeper connections await on the second floor's living plant museums - where visitors can learn about local and global plants. The rooftop garden provides a peaceful retreat with stunning views. Designed with hydroponic Vertical Ecosystems and horizontal Botanical systems, the structure maximizes greenery in a compact urban area, enhancing beauty and supporting environmental sustainability with features like rainwater harvesting. Added elements like fountains and birdhouses enrich the atmosphere, boosting mental well-being through natural sounds. This project is an example of Nature Based urban design that aims to inspire and guide global cities facing similar challenges. Would you like to see this Nature Based design in your city? Take a look at this concept video showcasing a walkthrough of our Hexafarms with attached housing. The core idea behind this innovative design is its dual functionality. Below the structure, it operates as an aquaculture hub, constantly replenishing itself with fish, lobsters, seaweed, and more. Above, it transforms into real estate, offering studio apartments available for Airbnb bookings, creating a unique floating resort experience. This project embodies all-purpose sustainability, blending food production with eco-friendly real estate, this also makes it the most cost-efficient seastead design ever proposed, at least for shallow water. We want to hear your feedback about this layout for a floating resort, what do you think? #floatingresort #Hexafarm #dualfunctionality #marineengineering #innovativedevelopment #realestate #seastead #aquaculture #conceptvideo #sustainablestructure ##ecofriendly

Day 27 out of 100 : Diving into Rural Tourism Sustainable Rural Architecture Imagine a rural tourism destination that's not just beautiful, but also environmentally restorative and empowers the local community. As an architect, rural development activist, and sustainability enthusiast, I'm witnessing the inspiring potential of sustainable rural architecture. It's more than just aesthetics – it's about creating a positive impact. Environmental impact: Think local, low-impact materials, solar power, natural ventilation, and rainwater harvesting. These elements create a lighter footprint on the environment. Socioeconomic benefits: Sustainable architecture preserves cultural heritage through design, fostering a strong sense of identity for the local community. It also creates opportunities for local artisans and craftspeople. Tourist experience: Sustainable architecture offers tourists a unique connection to the natural environment and the local way of life, making their experience even richer. By embracing sustainable principles, rural tourism destinations can become regenerative spaces for both the environment and the local community. What are your thoughts on this approach? Let's discuss how we can make sustainable rural architecture a reality! #rural #sustinable #architecture #tourism #travel #uae #dubai #heritage #cultural
