MAIN GOALS - GENERAL ACTIVITIES - FIELD OF EXPERTISES

Easy Housing is a circular and climate-resilient building technology, based on sustainable timber. The organisation focuses on emerging economies, providing building blueprints and sustainable timber to their building partners. Easy Housing's scalable building system can be tailored to local requirements, and the organization works with local partners and materials to stimulate the local economy. The timber construction stores carbon, which makes the homes carbon-negative. This way, Easy Housing reduces 250% of CO2 compared to concrete homes. Besides, the organisation's concept can withstand floods and hurricanes.

ACTIVITY RELATED TO LOW GHG AND ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND RESILIENT BUILDINGS

Easy Housing has completed four projects in three different countries. Their first project in Hilversum, the Netherlands, showed the technical feasibility of their building system and allowed them to further develop it. The organisation's first international project in Beira, Mozambique, showed how their building concept can be adapted to local contexts, using local materials and labour. This gave the organisation many interesting insights regarding the cultural integration of their homes and proved the possibility of a local concept line. Based on the feedback and lessons learned from this project, Easy Housing further improved its building concept for a second international project in Arua, Uganda. Their most recent project focuses on the humanitarian context, as they build a house in the Rhino Camp refugee settlement in West Nile, Uganda. This house has a simpler and more affordable design, while it is still 100% circular and climate-resilient. This makes it suitable for the humanitarian context.

All of these projects are examples of climate action in the construction sector, as these homes are: 1) 100% and zero waste, thus minimising resource use and waste production; 2) carbon negative, as Easy House avoids the use of concrete (which is responsible for 8% of the global CO2 emissions), and the sustainable timber used stores carbon in the building frames of the homes; and 3) designed to be resilient to climate disasters, such as hurricanes and floods. Easy Homes thus contribute to both climate change mitigation and adaptation.
