MAIN GOALS - GENERAL ACTIVITIES - FIELD OF EXPERTISES

Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) Council is an independent, not-for-profit society jointly setup by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India to promote and administer green buildings in India. GRIHA was adopted as the National Rating System for Green Buildings in India by MNRE in 2007. GRIHA evaluates the environmental performance of a building holistically over its entire life cycle, based on quantitative and qualitative criteria, thereby providing a definitive standard for green buildings and sustainable habitats. It seeks to minimise resource consumption, waste generation and overall ecological/environmental impact of buildings and habitat. GRIHA works on the underlying principle of "What gets measured gets managed".

ACTIVITY RELATED TO LOW GHG AND ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND RESILIENT BUILDINGS

The GRIHA rating has been acknowledged as the tool to evaluate reduction in emission intensity through habitats, as part of mitigation strategy for combating climate change in INDIA's “Nationally Determined Contributions” (NDCs) submitted to UNFCCC. By joining the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction, we recognize that the buildings and construction sector can make a significant contribution toward resource minimization and mitigating climate change.
