MAIN GOALS - GENERAL ACTIVITIES - FIELD OF EXPERTISES

The Department of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Policy and Sustainable Development within the MoESD is committed to fulfilling Georgia’s obligations for European and Euro-Atlantic integration. The department aims to advance and implement the legislative framework concerning energy efficiency, renewable energies, and sustainable development in accordance with the directives stipulated in the Association Agreement signed between Georgia and the EU. Furthermore, Georgia became a contracting party of the Energy Community in 2017, therefore, the department is responsible for adopting and implementing measures to meet the Energy Community’s requirements.

Additionally, the department is in charge of receiving, processing, analysing, and preparing reports on projects, presentations, meetings, and other events related to energy efficiency, renewable energies, and sustainable development.

ACTIVITY RELATED TO LOW GHG AND ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND RESILIENT BUILDINGS

The Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, in collaboration with key stakeholders such as the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, has developed Georgia's National Energy and Climate Plan. NECP is expected to be adopted by the Georgian parliament by the end of this year.

Furthermore, Georgia has successfully implemented minimum energy efficiency requirements mandating that all new building projects adhere to these specifications before being granted a building permit.

Additionally, the ministry is dedicated to adopting and implementing the bylaw on Energy Performance Certificates (EPC), intending to introduce these certificates to the Georgian market and regulate energy performance standards effectively.
