"Innovative Synergies: Integrating Data and Collaboration in Healthcare" We're delighted to be working with EIT Health Ireland-UK , with support from InterTradeIreland and Health Innovation Research Alliance Northern Ireland (HIRANI) on our upcoming conference in Dundalk on June 27th. This is a one-day conference directed at SMEs & Corporates, Healthcare providers, and academics across the island of Ireland in the health sector, focusing on collaboration, and addressing current challenges and future opportunities on managing data across countries and multiple organisations. It will also focus on the European Health Data Space (EHDS) which is a new European framework, recently passed by the European Parliament. It aims to give citizens in Europe access to, and control over, their own digital personal health data, including when traveling within the European Union. Additionally, large anonymised health datasets will be made available across borders on request for research, innovation and policy-making. This has potential to empower citizens, optimise public health decision making, accelerate innovation, and personalise medicine. The discussion will examine: - The transformative impact cross-border health data sharing could have on patients and clinicians - What opportunities could be unlocked for digital health research and innovation - Current initiatives to streamline health data access on the island of Ireland. Very interesting post about using 'commonplace' technology to support healthcare on Clare Island via telehealth, remote monitoring, and other supports, including 80% of residents using a fitness/health tracker. The concept of 'proximity' where the moment of demand meets the moment of supply is really relevant for technology & health, especially in areas such as virtual wards, 3D printing of medicines etc. The 'loneliness' support via constant online interactivity is also very relevant for rural Ireland. Delivers Award-Winning Workshops & Keynotes on Innovation and Reinvention Mindset. Author. Workshop Facilitator. Host Innovation Show. Lecturer. Board Director.
Join us for a special episode of the Innovation Show, recorded on Clare Island, where we delve into a transformative healthcare initiative. As a board director of National Broadband Ireland, I had the privilege of discussing the groundbreaking work of Dr Ian Mc Cabe a member of the HIVE lab at the University of Galway. Clare Island, a remote community of less than 150 people off the West coast of Ireland, faces unique healthcare challenges. With only a single doctor, Noreen Lineen-Curtis, visiting weekly from the mainland, residents, including newborns and an ageing population, navigate complex health conditions. Routine hospital appointments often mean arduous journeys and extended stays away from home, exacerbated by difficult travel conditions. Ian's work, including the Healthy Islands Project and the Home Health Project, aims to improve healthcare accessibility through remote delivery. Rolling out high-speed broadband and online communication is imperative to revolutionise rural healthcare, part of our remit with National Broadband Ireland. Ian McCabe, with his background in physics and bioengineering, and his commitment to Clare Island, shares insights from the initiatives. This episode was serendipitous as I had just interviewed Kaihan Krippendorff and Robert C. Wolcott on their new book, "Proximity". One of the subjects we discussed was the future of healthcare and then I met Ian during a presentation he gave to the teams of National Broadband Ireland, X3T and the board of RISE Global Foundation. I wanted to share Ian's work and highlight how connectivity is about more than remote work and entertainment, it can save lives. Tune in to learn how we are bridging the healthcare gap for rural and offshore communities, levelling up access to vital health services. Thanks to all the team at NBI and RISE, David McCourt, Peter Hendrick, TJ Malone, Jenny Fisher, Tara Collins, Orla O'Malley, Mairead Meyer, Joe Lavin, Barry Kelly, Donal Hanrahan, Bernard Keogh, Daragh O'Mahony and all everyone on the teams. Hat tip to Guy Robbins for the great video work. Hat tip to Brian Jordan of Cisco mentioned by Ian Mc Cabe during the episode. Great to partner with the Connected Health & Wellbeing Cluster at Dundalk Institute of Technology last week during the ‘Integrating Data and Collaboration in Healthcare' conference. Leah Dowdall from Department of Health - Ireland and I presented the European Health Data Space and explained how the European Union's Strategy for Data is paving the way for greater cross-border accessibility to anonymised #HealthData. Many thanks to panellists Loretto Grogan (Health Service Executive), Julia Palma (CeADAR Ireland) and Leah for discussing the potential this European framework could have here in Ireland for #healthcare, #policymaking, #research and #innovation. And to Dr. Frances Burns (Queen's University Belfast) for sharing best practice, highlighting how data exchange currently operates across the island of Ireland. I learned a lot from each of you about how we can move forward with #EHDS implementation! There were many interesting talks throughout the day. Love this example of Collaboration and Synergy from members of the Connected Health Cluster - IBM and Heart Rhythm Ireland. Congrats on the success to date, and we're incredibly optimistic on how this will vastly improve the cardiac health ecosystem, and patient wellbeing. IBM’s purpose is to be the catalyst that makes the world work better - so it’s wonderful to see this purpose in action here in Ireland. In a great example here of the strength of IBM’s partnerships and #ecosystem, @Gavin Shorten charts the #collaboration between @IBM and @Heart Rhythm Ireland in developing a cardiac implants management platform which supports 65,000 plus patients in over 50 hospitals across the country. Take a look at the short video between HRI’s CEO @Robert Kelly and IBM’s technical lead @Anton Whalley who further discuss the project and the #team approach to helping HRI realise its future objectives to incorporate #AI and to scale globally. https://lnkd.in/e9eeyDHu Kate Woolley, Dawn Herndon, Leo Clancy, David Stokes, Alison Say, IBM Partner Plus, Nathan Cullen, Robert Kelly, Noel Crawford, #IBMecosystem
