The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage's mission is to support the sustainable and efficient delivery of well-planned homes and effective local government. The Department works to: • ensure that planning and building in our regions and communities contributes to sustainable and balanced development • provide for a stable, sustainable supply of good quality housing • provide a framework for the sustainable management of water resources from source to sea • support and enable democratic, responsive and effective local government, effective electoral management and high quality fire services and emergency management • serve society by producing and communicating reliable weather and climate information to protect life and property and to improve Met Éireann’s role as the authoritative voice for high impact weather in Ireland The department is also responsible for: • managing the Irish State’s nature conservation responsibilities under national and European law • formulation and implementation of policy relating to Ireland’s architectural heritage • responsibility for built heritage including the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage

The new Local Authority Purchase and Renovation Loan is now LIVE The loan, which is an expansion of the Local Authority Home Loan, will support both the purchase and renovation of homes which are eligible under the existing Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant. The introduction of the Local Authority Purchase and Renovation Loan significantly expands the number of homes eligible under current local authority mortgage lending rules. 33,784 homes commenced in first six months of 2024 The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage has published its monthly data on the number of Commencement Notices (residential construction starts) for June 2024. There were 1,663 homes commenced in June 2024. For the first six months of 2024 (January – June), there were 33,784 homes commenced, more than double (up 117%) the 15,561 units commenced in the first half of 2023. The number of commencements for the first half of 2024 is now greater than that the number commenced in the whole of 2023 (32,801). More here: https://bit.ly/3YaqK5M #HousingForAll
