The 3rd edition of the WIAF takes place on September 12-13 2024, at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Conference Centre, in the US Capitol. This morning, we officially published our 2024 Mid-Year Results. The first six months of this year we supported 131 #investments, 74 of which are planned for regional locations, enabling the future delivery of 8,900 jobs to the economy. Foreign direct investment (#FDI) continues to have a strong economic impact, demonstrating steady growth and transformative investments. IDA Ireland have exceeded targets in total number of investments, job approvals, regional investment, and sustainability projects. "The government remains committed to ensuring the right polices are in place to facilitate the development of appropriate skills, infrastructure, and innovation to facilitate strong levels of FDI into the future” - Peter Burke, Minister for Enterprise, Trade & Employment. This week, Meet in Ireland hosted a FAM trip for eight French business events planners. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Horizon Tours DMC, Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau and Galway Convention Bureau and all the wonderful suppliers for making this FAM such a success! The Meet in Ireland French FAM focused on Ireland’s breath-taking Wild Atlantic Way and Ireland's Hidden Heartlands. After a quick refreshment stop at Palmerstown House Estate, our adventure began in County Clare. Following a delicious meal at the famous Durty Nellys Restaurant next to Bunratty Castle, we visited the stunning Cliffs of Moher where bag pipers were awaiting us! Our first overnight stay was at the eco-friendly, B-Corp certified Armada Hotel at Spanish Point. Aileen’s Restaurant at the Armada Hotel delighted us with modern Irish cuisine made from sustainably and locally produced foods. A morning yoga session overlooking the Atlantic Ocean was the perfect start to our day. Next, we ventured to Inisheer, the smallest of the Aran Islands, where we sampled fresh seafood, while enjoying traditional Irish music and dance. While on the island, we visited some of the historical sites, as well as the Arts Centre, where the planners learned to make St. Brigid’s crosses. A chartered flight with Aer Arann Islands treated us to breathtaking coastal views during our flight back to the mainland. In the vibrant, seaside city of Galway, we stayed at the chic The Dean Hotel Group. The business events planners explored some of the best of Irish gastronomy on a walking food tour of Galway, along with dinner at the Pullmans Restaurant at the Glenlo Abbey Hotel & Estate and Kirwins Lane Restaurant. A hurling workshop with Experience Gaelic Games and gin-making class at the Tribe Irish Gin Distillery were great fun, or ‘craic’ as we say in Ireland. The final stop of our journey was Glasson Lakehouse in Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands, where fishing and golf provided the perfect ending to this jam-packed FAM trip. The Meet in Ireland French FAM showcased some of the many amazing offerings on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way and Ireland's Hidden Heartlands, leaving our French business events planners with a tantalising taste of what awaits their corporate and incentive groups. The focus of the annual ICCA #GlobalAssociationForum is sustainability, one of ICCA's strategic priorities. In this 4th edition, we learned about unlocking the 'people' part of sustainability through wellness, we heard regenerative event management case studies, we got an update on important industry initiatives such as the Net Zero Carbon Events, we brainstormed how to leave an #IncredibleImpact, we were inspired to leverage locally rooted value chains ... and much more. We exchanged, we laughed and we got to experience some amazing Mexican hospitality! Not a bad investment of two days! Action on #sustainability is no longer a nice-to-have; it is essential for the future of our industry. So expect to hear lots more about #sustainablemeetings; it isn't going away! Drum Roll!
