The next generation of aircraft, which we do not expect to enter service until 2035, will need to be at least 20% more efficient and environmentally friendly to meaningfully accelerate the industry’s decarbonization. This is just one of many viewpoints put forward by Shane Matthews, our Head of Strategic and Market Analysis, and his team in “Fuelling the Future of Flight” – available here now: https://lnkd.in/etdASgNi

We are pleased to launch our third whitepaper this year, “Fuelling the Future of Flight”, exploring the effectiveness of various commercial technologies to accelerate the industry’s decarbonization. Written by Shane Matthews, Darren Naughton and David Griffin of the Strategic and Market Analysis team alongside Shane Wilson and Oisin Donnelly of The Nest, the report suggests that the aviation sector’s journey to net zero by 2050 will be shaped by technology, fuel, operational and market-based measures. Thank you PropelHer for hosting an excellent panel discussion last week on Artificial Intelligence, including our SVP IT Paulina B.. SMBC Aviation Capital look forward to the next PropelHer event. #PropelHer #WomenInAviation #AircraftLeasing
A huge thanks to last night's event sponsor SKY Leasing. The audience enjoyed a fascinating discussion on Artificial Intelligence moderated by SKY Leasing's General Counsel, Catherine Kearns. The audience gained insight from leasing professionals currently assessing the applicability of AI in aviation leasing - Paulina B. from SMBC Aviation Capital, Paula Fearon of McCann FitzGerald LLP, Elaine Roche of Castlelake and Fiona Taaffe of Dubai Aerospace Enterprise. We were reassured to hear AI won't replace us and it was succinctly summarised as - it's not magic, it's maths. #PropelHer #WomenInAviation #AircraftLeasing

Bob Boles (SVP, Technical at SMBC Aviation Capital) will be sharing his experience and journey into aircraft leasing with Lynn Guiney and Tim O'Connell as part of the Grant Thornton Ireland Aviation Summer Series on Tuesday 25 June. To register for this event please visit: https://lnkd.in/etXGqGss #AircraftLeasing #Aviation
Bob Boles started out by taking apart a lawnmower at 13 in his garden shed in Tipperary. Then a motorbike, then cars. His curiousity for machines meant that summer holidays were spent either working on cars in the shed or panel beating at the local garage for extra cash. But it was the ad in the paper for Shannon Aerospace for aircraft maintenance technicians that became his true calling. He was literally Class 1, Toolkit 1 (having B as surname helped) and his mantra was and is 'the only thing more complicated than an aircraft is a rocket'. Bob and I worked for years together at RBS (now SMBC) Aviation Capital - I can bear testament that his knowledge of aircraft is unparalleled, but for me, his passion for explaining the technical side of the business is truly inspiring. He genuinely makes the complex uncomplicated, and it is no surpise that he is a sought after lecturer in the industry. Ready to be inspired? Please join me and Tim for the fourth and final lecture in the Grant Thornton Ireland aviation Summer Series next Tuesday, 25 June with registration from 430pm (lecture starts at 5pm). Please register here: https://lnkd.in/etXGqGss We look forward to seeing you there! #aviation #aircraftleasing #SMBCAviationCapital
