Innovation For Clean Air

About us

Airovation Technologies is a leading climate-tech provider of carbon-capture solutions, enabling hard-to-abate industries to achieve net-zero targets through its proprietary mineralization technology. By capturing and utilizing post-combustion carbon-dioxide emissions at the point source, Airovation offers a complete CCUS solution to industrial emitters, bypassing the need for additional infrastructure such as long-haul pipelines and sequestration wells. Airovation’s proprietary second-generation process mineralizes carbon emissions at over 90% efficiency to co-produce sulfuric acid and calcium carbonate in a profitable and scalable operation. As a high-value chemical byproduct of the company’s proprietary process, sulfuric acid — the world’s most widely used inorganic chemical, primarily in the manufacturing of fertilizer, precious metals, and chemicals — is sold at a purity level as high as 98%. Precipitated calcium carbonate — used in cement, plastics, flue-gas desulfurization, and more — can either be stored as a durable CO2 storage method for up to 1,000 years or sold as a product within a circular economy. Airovation is building a global network of partners to build the necessary infrastructure that will unlock the immense value of its proprietary utilization technology.

Airovation expresses gratitude to the IIA Israeli Innovation Authority and the Ministry of Environmental Protection for their generous grant and unwavering support towards the largest CCUS field pilot in Israel. The pilot project will address two environmental issues, namely, the Phosphogypsum waste and Carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS). We are excited to announce that the pilot is in the final stages of planning, and construction will begin in the coming months at the Rotem plant of the ICL group. This pioneering facility will lead to a global revolution in the circular economy of the fertilizer industry. #Airovation #IIA #IsraeliInnovationAuthority #MinistryOfEnvironmentalProtection #CCUS #PhosphogypsumWaste #CircularEconomy #ICLGroup

CO2 - The new commodity in circular economy Today, governments are enacting increasingly stringent regulations on greenhouse gas emissions such as methane and carbon dioxide (CO2). Therefore, many parties are looking for ways to exploit the CO2 reserves absorbed from emissions, or absorbed directly from the atmosphere, and turn a once feared byproduct into a valuable resource. In addition, it also makes artificially capturing CO2 economically viable. This is where circular economy comes in. The market for trade in CO2 is still in its infancy, but even in Israel, the issue of transportation and storage is being promoted with relevant parties. Europe is already in advanced stages of approving a long-term plan for distributing and storing CO2, including incentives for various uses of it, some of which I will describe below. Artificial injection to greenhouses: Becomes common mainly due to the challenges facing agriculture today in the face of the climate crisis and the possibility of crops disappearing. Needless to say, this use is relevant mainly in developed countries. Carbonization of cement: When CO2 is injected into cement, a process called carbonization occurs. This is a reaction of CO2 with calcite in cement, resulting in calcium carbonate. This process not only sequesters carbon but also improves the strength and durability of the cement by creating additional binding materials. The impact here is significant, mainly because the cement industry is one of the industries with the most significant CO2 emissions. An Israeli company worth mentioning here is Airovation Technologies. Cooling: According to the "Carbon Currency Rate", each molecule of one of the artificial refrigerants (CFC, HFC) is equivalent to thousands to tens of thousands of CO2 molecules. Supercritical CO2 (between liquid to gas) has a high heat capacity, which gives it excellent cooling properties. It also enables efficient and targeted cooling, making it valuable in industries where maintaining precise temperatures is essential, in addition it is suitable for various industrial processes. An Israeli start-up in the field is NOF - Natural Offset Farming, which has developed mobile cooling systems for farmers in developing countries, where food loss begins at the field due to lack of storage infrastructure. Polymer and fuel production: By CO2 reduction, a variety of products can be achieved. Different reduction reactions will provide different raw materials like ethylene, which is used to make polymers or synthetic fuels like methanol. The main difficulty is to produce these reactions without an energy-intensive process, such as electrochemical reduction or through the use of various bacteria and enzymatic processes. Significant global companies invest considerable resources to achieve commercial capability for these techniques. From the Israeli angle, Carbonade has developed a patent that makes the electrochemical reaction much cheaper and more efficient.

"Although still being scaled, CCUS technologies are the bridge that we can build, here and now, to keep navigating toward a net zero carbon future. For governments and industries, the investment in CCUS is manageable, attainable, and practical — and it should be made today." Airovation Technologies Co-Founder & COO Gil Tomer explains in Newsweek why the time to invest in our collective future is now — and that we can't delay this pursuit, given the current U.S. administration's determination to decarbonize the country's economy in the fight against climate change. #greeninvestment #greentech #climateaction #carboncapture #carbonfootprint #ccus
