Shree Cement has achieved a significant milestone—1 GW (1,000 MW) of installed power capacity! This accomplishment was marked by the commissioning of a 19.5 MW solar power plant at our manufacturing unit in Andhra Pradesh. Our 1 GW capacity includes a diverse mix of solar, wind, thermal and waste heat recovery power plants. We've invested Rs 4,000 crore to expand our renewable portfolio, which now accounts for nearly 50% of our installed power capacity at 499 MW. Notably, our 244 MW capacity from waste heat recovery is one of the highest in the global cement industry. Achieving this power capacity ensures that we have abundant electricity to power our existing cement production and our expansion projects. The surplus power we generate will be contributed to both state and central grids. Today, nearly 56% of our power requirement for cement production is met from renewable resources, the highest in the Indian cement industry. Our aim is to set a benchmark for sustainability within the cement sector and inspire positive change throughout the industry. Looking ahead, we plan to invest an estimated Rs 1,000 crore in FY25 to further enhance our renewable energy capacity. This planned capex will facilitate the installation of an additional 202 MW of renewable energy capacity, which includes 132 MW of solar capacity across five states—Jharkhand, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, 36 MW of wind generation in Rajasthan and 34 MW of waste heat recovery capacity in Karnataka and Rajasthan. Our staff and their families came together with great enthusiasm to celebrate the International Day of Yoga, with approximately 1000+ participating in the meditation and yoga sessions at our office and plant locations. External experts were on hand to answer specific questions from our staff. Shree Cement took this opportunity to emphasize the importance of physical and mental wellbeing for our employees and their families. It was a wonderful day of connection and mindfulness, reminding us all of the value of taking time for self-care. Health and well-being are integral aspects of our welfare practices. We have dedicated Medical Officers and Sports Coaches, supported by state-of-the-art sports infrastructure. Our plants across the country celebrated World Environment Day 2024 in June with activities that were centered around raising awareness, inspiring action and celebrating our progress and achievements.   The theme for World Environment Day was around land restoration, halting desertification and building drought resilience under the slogan ‘Our land. Our future’, emphasizing the importance of reviving degraded ecosystems and building resilience against climate change. In line with this, we organised plantation drives, plant adoption programs, activity workshops for employees and families, awareness session for employees, contractors and stakeholders around the plant, water conservation demonstration, recognition programs and a lot more.   These celebrations serve as a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility to protect our planet for the future generations. Mr. Neeraj Akhoury, Managing Director of Shree Cement Ltd. and President of the Cement Manufacturers' Association - India (CMA), delivered the inaugural address at the 20th Green Cementech 2024 in Hyderabad. He highlighted that the Indian Cement industry is not just the second-largest in the world but also a leader in efficiency and sustainability. Mr. Akhoury discussed how the industry is leading the transition to green products by producing Blended Cements and using waste products like fly ash and slag from other industries. He shared that the industry is investing in renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power, continuously striving to reduce its carbon footprint and achieve the lowest energy consumption levels globally. One of the biggest contributors of our nation’s economy is the construction industry where concrete plays a very important part. Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) is crucial for speedy construction with consistent quality assurance. In India, RMC accounts for 20% of construction consumption, whereas in developing nations it is as high as 75%.
