Over the past years, Maris has been a valuable partner for LAXEY’s borehole operations, providing essential data logging equipment, sensors, and expertise for our drilling research and upcoming operations at our full grow-out site. 🏗 📈 Our collaboration aims to further enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our borehole operations by utilizing the right equipment for the tasks ahead. Marís brings extensive knowledge in pumps and related equipment, particularly in borehole and centrifugal pump systems. 🤝 We were delighted to host Hannes Kristinn Gunnarsson and Guðmundur Steinar Jóhannsson from Marís at our grow-out site to discuss future solutions and ideas. Their visit was both productive and enjoyable. We extend our gratitude for their valuable insights and ongoing collaboration.

Sustainable aquaculture on land
About us
Our aim is to establish a fish farm on land in the Westman Islands for 32,000 tonnes / year of atlantic salmon. Aquaculture has for a long time been the fastest growing food industry worldwide. Global population growth and improved quality of life have meant that demand for salmon has been growing faster than supply.

🙌 Our third batch has arrived This batch consists of 900,000 salmon ova, representing 75% of our hatchery's capacity. As with previous batches, these ova have been sourced from Benchmark Genetics. 🤝 LAXEY now maintains biomass at three different stages: Hatchery, RAS 1, and RAS 2. We are pleased to report that all stages are performing very well. 👏 Looking ahead, our fourth batch is scheduled for later this year. This will be our first full-capacity batch, consisting of 1,200,000 salmon ova. This milestone will mark the commencement of full-scale production at all stages within our smolt station.

This time of year, in Iceland is truly magical – the sun doesn't set until around midnight, giving us these incredible, extended daylight hours. Sunrise also comes early, around 3:00, so we have around 20 hours of daylight. This picture was taken 23:20 last night, shows the Grow out site, the sunset and a better glimpse of our town. 🌅✨
