The International Institute of Humanitarian Law is an independent, non-profit humanitarian organisation founded in 1970. The main purpose of the Institute is to promote the development of international humanitarian law, human rights, refugee law, migration law and related issues through the organization of training courses, seminars and Round Table. Its headquarters are situated in Villa Ormond in Sanremo in Italy. The Liaison Office of the Institute is established in Geneva in Switzerland. Thanks to its specific, well-tested experience, the Institute has earned an international reputation as a centre of excellence in the field of training, research, and the dissemination of all aspects of international humanitarian law. Considering the aims it pursues, the Institute works in close collaboration with the most important international organizations, including the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). IIHL has operational relations with the European Union, UNESCO, NATO, Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). IIHL has consultative status with the United Nations (ECOSOC) and the Council of Europe.

Mr. Gian Luca Beruto, accompanied by the Deputy Director of the Institute's Military Department, Col. Rudolph Stamminger, attended the change of command ceremony of the Commissioners' Corps of the French Armed Forces in Salon de Provence, France. The presence of the Institute’s highest offices for this significant occasion further cemented its collaboration with the École des Commissaires des Armées (ECA). This event underscores their enduring partnership, dedicated to the development and advancing of humanitarian law in the field of military training and research. 🤝✨

    ✨📚 Today, July 12th, marks the final day of the 𝟮𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹! 📚✨ Congratulations to all our incredible participants! Your insights and experiences have truly enriched our time in Sanremo. Over this second week, more than 20 international practitioners from across the globe delved into refugee and migration law, with special sessions led by the Department of International Refugee Law and Migration Law and the contribution of UNHCR's John Young, Professor Ivana Krstic and other high-level speakers joining online. 🧑💻🎒 They also explored the key issues of international disaster law with Dr. Tommaso Natoli, IFRC disaster focal point for the EU and Humanitarian Advocacy Senior Officer at the Italian Red Cross. 🚨🤝 There's more! Beyond the classroom sessions, we enjoyed social activities and a memorable final dinner, fostering lasting connections in the Spirit of Sanremo. 🦢 Finally, today's closing session featured an enlightening discussion on the prosecution of war crimes with international Judge Christine Van den Wyngaert.
