Dilmah is unique; a brand that is founded on a passionate commitment to quality and authenticity in tea, it is also a part of a philosophy that goes beyond commerce in seeing business as a matter of human service. Launched in 1988 by Merrill J. Fernando Dilmah pioneered important initiatives which have become the hallmarks of the company. These are important because traditional tea, made in the ‘orthodox’ style – a production process that starts with handpicking the leaves and continues through withering, rolling, oxidation and firing – follows a technique perfected over centuries. It produces tea that are varied and sophisticated. The alternative is CTC, a relatively recent method of production designed to offer a quick ‘cuppa’ and in the process sacrifices all that is special in tea. Merrill describes CTC as ‘tea without a soul.’ Today Dilmah is the only vertically integrated tea company with its own tea gardens – some of Ceylon’s best estates – and state of the art printing & packaging facilities, tea packing and investments in every segment of the industry. Dilmah concentrates on offering tea aficionados around the world a truly different experience in tea, presenting an unmatched collection of teas, each tasted and selected with the benefit of decades of experience in tea, and most importantly marked by genuine innovation and a passion for quality. Dilmah restates its commitment to the values on which it is founded along with Merrill’s sons Dilhan & Malik. Daron Curtiss is a New Zealand advertising professional who urged our Founder to share our Dilmah family's passion for tea and kindness through personalized TV and commercial messages. In 2011, our friendship with Daron blossomed into an IT institute, supporting those who were unable to access digital literacy and IT skills. From 8 computers, we have grown into a facility with 48 workstations and nationally accredited programs. In Sri Lanka, digital literacy is still out of reach for many. At Curtiss we offer training for MJF Kids, children with disabilities at the Rainbow Centre, and students from schools affiliated with the Cricket Live Program and the Empower Culinary and Hospitality School. In awareness of #WorldYouthSkillsDay we know the value of digital literacy for young people as they progress in the world. Today, our alumni of 3,588 includes graduates to teachers and graphic designers in Sri Lanka and overseas. Daron Curtiss helped craft our Founder’s invitation to the world- #DoTryIt. 10 years ago, Alex Reese; a young Kiwi merged his dream to support children from low income communities with the vision of our Founder Merrill J. Fernando to Make The World A Better Tea. Together, they formed the Cricket Live Program to harness the spirit of cricket in mentoring youth for education and life skills. Sahan was one of our first members, whose mother wanted a safe haven for him, beyond their adversities. But, the 2019 Easter attacks shook his family’s stability even more. With resilience and our support, Sahan secured a scholarship at a leading school and a spot on the National U-19 Cricket team. Kiedy myślę o tym, jak ważni w biznesie są ludzie; o tym, że to ludzie tworzą biznes dla innych ludzi, a niekoniecznie dla pieniędzy i sławy, to myślę przede wszystkim o Merrillu J. Fernando, założycielu marki Dilmah Tea, którego rocznica śmierci przypada właśnie dziś. „Business is a matter of human service” - tak brzmiała Jego dewiza, którą konsekwentnie realizował przez całe życie. Zaczął od najbliższych - zakładając markę herbaty od razu ufundował ją przyszłym pokoleniom, nazywając ją od imion swoich synów, Dilhan C. Fernando i Malik J Fernando. Był niekwestionowanym mistrzem herbaty, jednym z najlepszych i najbardziej doświadczonych farmerów i kiperów na świecie, ale dla tych, którzy znali go dłużej i lepiej jasne stawało się, że tak naprawdę ta miłość miała swój większy cel.
