FSMA has been a steadfast advocate for inclusive sanitation from the very beginning. As we embark on our journey of closure, we aim to pave the way for a future where inclusivity is ingrained in every aspect of the sanitation sector. In our early days, FSM and its professionals were often overlooked. Together, we have worked tirelessly to amplify their voices and elevate the importance of FSM in the broader discourse on sanitation. We take pride in the role of FSMA and its community in bringing FSM to the forefront of the conversation. While challenges persist in reaching the last mile, we see a new horizon emerging. It's a path that embraces all technologies and champions the dignity of every sanitation worker. FSMA's impact in Indonesia 🇮🇩 started in 2022 with our Liaison Programme. Since our Liaison team there started working on improving access to non-sewered sanitation, we've accomplished the following milestones: 🚽 We were able to get 5 villages in West Java water recycling units to process household wastewater 🏫 We held 30 schools get reinvented toilets 🎖️ We helped the Indonesian Army welcome a wastewater recycling unit for one of their sites Beyond FSMA, we hope the team there continues their efforts getting more people safe sanitation. #ReinventTheToilet #Indonesia #Sanitation #Wastewater

Bringing people together to collaborate on solutions to shared challenges was always a core goal of FSMA. One network member remembers, "The topics, discussions and networking that FSMA promoted have been of great importance to inspire and orient actions throughout the world. FSMA’s biggest impact on the sector was probably through the FSM Conferences. Since 2017, these conferences have provided a platform for FSM service providers, workers, and stakeholders to build supportive networks and share knowledge and resources. We have been excited to watch this conference grow in attendance and visibility—over four years, we hosted over 6,500 participants. FSMA has used the momentum of these conferences to create further opportunities for sharing knowledge, resources, and expertise between organizations and individual members working in FSM. 🌟 Celebrating the Legacy of FSM Conferences 🎉 FSMA has been deeply honored to contribute to the success of the FSM Conferences. Witnessing the growth of these events, fostering knowledge exchange, and nurturing networks focused on faecal sludge management and next-generation sanitation has been a highlight of our journey. Regrettably, there are currently no plans for another organization to helm the planning of future conference editions, and funding for FSM8 remains uncertain. FSMA Spotlights Webinar! Date : 4/7/24 Time: 11:00AM CEST Register here: https://lnkd.in/dSDHHRFR Webinar Description: The potential value of the sanitation economy in low- and middle-income countries is very considerable, but business opportunities are currently limited. In order to promote investment opportunities and engage investors, an understanding is needed of the investment readiness of sanitation from the perspective of both public funders and private financiers. The SANEMAT attempts to answer key questions these investors might have to make their investment decisions, and identify aspects of the enabling environment that need to be strengthened in order to attract more investment. A maturity score for the sanitation economy can also be generated for a range of 'pillars' and summated into an index. The tool is based on a range of indicators - some of which have data regularly collected and reported, and others which need interviews with key informants or additional studies. A first proposal for the SANEMAT has recently been circulated to a range of partners to collect feedback until mid-July, before the tool is prepared for pilot testing. This webinar forms part of the process for informing partners and receiving feedback. Speakers: Guy Hutton- Independent Consultant Guy Hutton is a development economist with a PhD in economics from London University. He currently works as an independent consultant, based in the United Kingdom. In 2023, he set up a consulting company “Innate Values Ltd” (www.innatevalues.com) Dominic O' Neill, SHF Executive Director Mr. Dominic O’Neill joined UNOPS in September 2020 to lead with the setup of the new Sanitation and Hygiene Fund (SHF). The SHF was launched by DSG Amina Mohammed in November 2020 and the SHF became operational in July 2021.
