JUMP: A vision of urban vitality and sustainable design principles. Located at the intersection of diverse urban areas in Aubervilliers, Paris and commissioned by ICADE, KAAN Architecten designed a building that connects two green zones, “Place du Front Populaire” and the urban forest of “Parc Icade des Portes de Paris”. With its colossal landing, JUMP has established itself as the central point of convergence in the area. The building integrates a hotel, offices, retail spaces, and parking. The design embraces the area's eclectic architecture and enhances the dynamism of this urban area served by Metro Line 12. Rising 30 meters on a 45 x 90-meter footprint, JUMP integrates two west-facing voids with gardens that connect "Place du Front Populaire" and "Parc Icade des Portes de Paris". These voids provide entry points for offices and terraces for restaurants. The eastern façade is segmented into five volumes by four sky-reflecting cuts. A transparent public plinth links "Rue de la Garance" with "Rue des Fillettes", revealing gardens and neighbouring buildings. To the north, the hotel volume, and to the south, the office volume, contrast dense urbanity with green space. Loggias on the top floors soften the building's rigidity, while retail, lobbies, and terraces connect the building to its surroundings at ground and roof levels. The choice of low-carbon materials and the integration of reused components by KAAN Architecten reduced the carbon footprint by nearly 30% compared to the Carbon 1 threshold of the E+C- label. The overall Greenhouse gas emissions stand at 1124 kgCO2eq/m², with 842 kgCO2eq/m² attributed to Construction Products and Energy Consumption. JUMP is a forward-thinking, sustainable building that enhances its urban environment. Its adaptable design meets current and future needs, demonstrating KAAN Architecten’s approach to thriving while addressing environmental challenges. Museum Paleis Het Loo by KAAN Architecten nominated for Prix Versailles 2024: The World’s Most Beautiful Museums For the first time in its history, the Prix Versailles, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, is unveiling the World’s Most Beautiful Museums List for 2024: seven newly opened or reopened museums that simultaneously serve creativity, the reflection of local heritage and ecological efficiency, and that leave extraordinary imprints on their environments. They will all compete for three 2024 World Titles – Prix Versailles, Interior and Exterior – whose laureates will be announced at UNESCO Headquarters by late November. Jérôme Gouadain, Secretary General of the Prix Versailles, emphasizes the significance of museums in fostering intercultural dialogue and providing immersive experiences. He states, "By creating the World’s Most Beautiful Museums List, we wanted to emphasize the importance of wonder, which elevates the human gaze and allows us to be surprised." The museum has established itself as a cultural hotspot where everybody feels welcome.

KAAN Architecten to renovate the headquarters of the National Bank of Belgium The National Bank of Belgium has announced its plans to renovate its headquarters by 2030, aiming to create a modern and sustainable workspace that brings its staff together under one roof in Brussels. Following a public tender, the project's design was awarded to KAAN Architecten and LOW architecten (the Statuur consortium). The Bank's operations are currently spread across multiple buildings in the heart of Brussels, no longer meeting the desired operational and energy efficiency standards. Aligned with the Bank's commitment to social responsibility and sustainability, the consolidation of staff into a single building, NBB1, is slated to be completed by approximately 2030. The new headquarters will enable the National Bank to considerably reduce its occupied surface area from the current 217,000 m2 to about 80,000 m2. The decision to consolidate is further bolstered by remote working practices, reducing the need for workstations. The renovation of the NBB1 building will transform it into a cutting-edge smart building. The project's key objectives are to improve energy performance and optimise the use of space. By implementing innovative and sustainable solutions, such as advanced smart lighting, ventilation, and heating systems, the Bank aims to achieve substantial energy savings. Furthermore, the renovated headquarters will offer the Bank's staff a modern and pleasant working environment that caters to the demands of the changing work practices. The NBB's ambitious renovation plan reflects its commitment to combining contemporary elements with preserving historical values. The result will be a recognisable headquarters that embodies sustainability, openness, and beauty while retaining its timeless grandeur.
