CELEBRATING BEING ACTIVE We recently held a Learning Celebration for Physical Education (PE)to showcase what students have been learning during PE sessions. Parents were invited to actively participate in their children’s activities. It was really rewarding to see the excitement and enthusiasm from both parents and children as they engaged in various exercises and games together, including rope swinging, wall climbing, badminton high score, and hanging on the climbing rack. The celebration highlighted the importance of physical education in our curriculum and strengthened the bond between the school and families. THE YOUNG AUTHORS INITIATIVE  During the month of May, we invited all children to write and submit books for the school library, and they jumped right in, turning their wildest imaginations into amazing stories. Creating these books took a bit more than a month, as our young authors needed extra time to let their ideas sparkle. Many stories were written at home with help from their parents, while others came to life during language lessons at school. We are super proud of our young authors and thrilled about the new books everyone can now enjoy in the library. Ondersteuning van Meertaligheid in Haarlemmermeer Bij Optimist International School zijn we trots om een taalvriendelijke school te zijn die alle culturen en talen viert. Onlangs hebben we onze inspanningen uitgebreid door een workshop te organiseren voor lokale organisaties in samenwerking met de Rutu Foundation en ondersteund door Gemeente Haarlemmermeer. Met 70 deelnemers uit diverse sectoren zoals kinderopvang, onderwijs, bibliotheken en zwembadpersoneel, de workshop was een waardevolle ervaring. We verdiepten ons in de voordelen en uitdagingen van meertaligheid, bespraken de nieuwste wetenschappelijke inzichten en deelden praktische tips voor het creëren van een taalvriendelijke omgeving. Dank aan onze toegewijde sprekers, Dr Ellen-Rose Kambel en Hilda Heyde, en onze gepassioneerde docenten, Margit Tera en Marjolein Schenk. We zijn Gemeente Haarlemmermeer en alle deelnemers dankbaar die dit evenement mogelijk hebben gemaakt. Samen zetten we stappen richting een meer inclusieve en ondersteunende gemeenschap. Multilingualism in Haarlemmermeer At Optimist International School, we are proud to be a Language Friendly School that celebrates all cultures and languages. Spellbound by Stories: this April, during our Book Month, we were thrilled to host British author and magician Ross Welford, know for "Time Travelling with a Hamster", for a series of magical author talks and workshops. From creating spontaneous stories with our youngest learners to leading advanced writing workshops for our Group 7 students, Ross Welford's visit was filled with inspiration and entertainment. Highlights of the day included: -Interactive story creation that ended with characters enjoying front row seats at a Taylor Swift concert 😀 - Practical writing tips that transformed our students into budding authors - And magic tricks that left us all in awe.
