  • As part of our NAIDOC Week celebrations, we were lucky to have First Nation’s artist Jessica Begg visit Singapore to conduct two art masterclasses at the Punggol Regional Library.   Jessica spoke with a group of young aspiring artists, about storytelling through art. The groups then tried their talents in painting canvas library bags under Jessica’s guidance.   Jessica is from Yued Noongar country in Western Australia. In her own words, she “started painting as a form of meditation and once she had a family of her own, she felt very drawn to her culture and expressing feelings and stories through art. She remembers watching her Yued nana paint when she was young. That was her inspiration and she loved visiting her and listening to her stories growing up in her community.”   Jessica is working on something very special with the High Commission… so watch this space.

  • This week, staff at the High Commission have learnt about First Nations cultures and histories and celebrated the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. Earlier, staff across the High Commission came together to watch a screening of the documentary “the knowledge” which highlights the role that First Nations traditional knowledge can play in responding to climate change. The documentary focuses on traditional fire, sea and land management to prevent catastrophic bushfires and promote sustainable agricultural, coastal and coral reef management. It was filmed by an Indigenous production house, Wolflab, and the film makers have sought to tell the stories of some remarkable individuals that deeply understand the Australian landscape.

  • Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud   Earlier, we marked the start of our NAIDOC week celebrations with a flag raising ceremony at the High Commission.   NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year, to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.   It’s an opportunity for all Australians and our staff at the High Commission to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.   This year's theme—Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud—celebrates the unyielding spirit of our communities and invites all to stand in solidarity, amplifying voices that have long been silenced.   Follow our celebrations this week.

I was proud to join my fellow IPEF Ministers in Singapore yesterday to sign three landmark agreements: ➡️ The IPEF Fair Economy Agreement ➡️ The IPEF Clean Economy Agreement ➡️ The IPEF Overarching Agreement These agreements will help facilitate greater investment to strengthen economic ties and support the region’s transition to net zero. Thank you to President Tharman and Prime Minister Wong for your warm welcome and for hosting this IPEF Ministerial Meeting. Together, we are working to advance resilience, sustainability, economic growth and fairness in our region.

This week I've travelled to Singapore to attend the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) Ministerial Meeting and advance Australia's trade and investment interests within the region. Australia and Singapore are close friends and we share a strong and long-standing partnership. It's an honour to be leading Australia's first outbound investment mission as part of our Government's Southeast Asia Investment Deals Team initiative, and it was terrific to sit down with the delegation this morning for a productive and insightful discussion. Singapore’s close financial and trading links with the region are an important opportunity for Australian investors to deepen their engagement in Southeast Asia.
