On May 28, 2024, Andrii Bondar, Innovation Manager at DTEK, spoke at the III Annual Conference of the Energy Association "UKRAINIAN HYDROGEN COUNCIL." In his presentation titled "Hydrogen Use Cases – Ukrainian Perspective," he outlined the opportunities and prospects for #hydrogen technologies in Ukraine. Starting his speech, Andrii Bondar thanked the organizers and participants for the opportunity to address such a distinguished audience. He noted that DTEK has been exploring the #HydrogenSector for four years, actively investigating opportunities and participating in various associations. The company has also worked on several potential #PilotProjects that were temporarily halted due to the war. "Despite the challenges, we continue to see immense potential for hydrogen in Ukraine," emphasized Bondar. He highlighted that Ukraine has significant opportunities for #HydrogenProduction and its use in various industrial sectors, such as #fertilizer production, #steel manufacturing, and synthetic fuels. In his presentation, Andrii Bondar shared the results of an internal study in which DTEK evaluated the resources needed to achieve 2020 production and export levels using hydrogen instead of traditional fossil energy sources. According to him, approximately 60 GW of #RenewableEnergy sources and 20 GW of #electrolyzers are required to support such production volumes. Bondar also pointed out that realizing such ambitious projects will require substantial financial #investments. He cited the example of the successful H2 Green Steel project in Sweden, which required more than €6.5b ln to build a hydrogen based DRI + EAF green steel plant with energy coming from the Sweedish grid, to produce 2.5 million tonnes of near zero steel. "We hope that, together with the associations and companies represented at this conference, we can find solutions to these challenges," Bondar said. Concluding his speech, he expressed hope that Ukraine could attract the necessary financing tools and begin implementing large-scale hydrogen technology projects to achieve the 2030 targets. #UkrainianHydrogenCouncil
