Yesterday, we were represented by our team lead, Ms. Zianah Muddu at the 4th Annual #Cyber #Security Breakfast hosted by the Uganda Communications Commission. The event brought together executives from the Communications sector and other critical industries to explore the theme: "Cyber security as a Competitive Advantage: robust #cybersecurity measures as a catalyst for innovation and competitive advantage" to discuss the latest trends, risks, and management strategies related to cybersecurity within the respective ecosystems. This Breakfast yielded significant strides in bolstering Uganda's cybersecurity landscape. Key achievements from this forum include: ✅Strengthening Uganda Computer Emergency Response Team's (CERT) Capabilities: The CERT UGANDA will be equipped with state-of-the-art forensics technology, enabling more efficient investigation and response to cyber incidents. It will also expand its capacity for advanced threat analysis and intelligence gathering to proactively identify and mitigate potential threats. ✅Talent Development: Investments in training and upskilling CERT personnel will be prioritised to enhance their expertise in handling complex cybersecurity challenges. ✅Real-time Threat Intelligence: Telecoms and Internet Service Providers will deploy advanced threat monitoring platforms capable of detecting and responding to cyber threats in real-time, minimizing system vulnerabilities and data breaches. ✅Comprehensive Cyber Security Framework: The development of a robust cyber security framework with clear and actionable incident response plans will provide a standardized approach to managing cyber risks across the sector. ✅Minimum Security Guidelines: Enforceable minimum cybersecurity guidelines will be established to ensure a baseline level of protection for all organizations within the sector. ✅Regular Cyber Drills: Mandatory bi-annual cyber drills will simulate real-world cyberattacks, enabling organizations to test their incident response capabilities and identify areas for improvement. ✅Cybersecurity Education: The Cyber Stars program for universities and secondary schools will be expanded to include a curriculum focused on developing a pipeline of cybersecurity talent for the future. ✅Public Awareness Campaigns: Comprehensive cybersecurity awareness campaigns will be launched to educate the public about cyber threats, prevention measures, and responsible online behavior. ✅Digital Financial Services Lab: The establishment of a dedicated digital financial services lab will foster innovation in the sector by providing a platform for research, development, and testing of new cybersecurity solutions. At #FITSPA, we are excited about this plan because we know that cybersecurity is indispensable to the fintech ecosystem as it safeguards sensitive financial data, builds consumer trust, prevents financial losses, ensures regulatory compliance, fuels innovation and protects brand reputation.

We were delighted to have hosted Mr. Gregory Peter Omondi, the Senior Manager at GSMA Innovation Fund by GSMA, which is a global organization unifying the #mobile ecosystem to discover, develop, and deliver innovation foundational to positive business environments and societal change. The fund supports digital #startups and businesses in low and middle-income countries to develop innovative solutions in areas such as agriculture, climate change, and #financial services, to improve lives and drive economic growth. Our discussion focused on the #funding opportunities that the #Fund presents to our members and the #Fintech sector in Uganda as a whole. We also explored the possibility of collaborating to organize capacity-building sessions for the #FITSPA community, focused on the application of new #technologies and related public #policy developments. In March 2024, #GSMA also released the State of the Industry #Report on #Mobile #Money, highlighting the significant growth and impact of mobile money services globally, particularly in Sub-Saharan #Africa. The report emphasizes the industry's maturation, expanding use cases, and its positive contribution to #economic development and financial #inclusion. For fintechs, utilizing the information provided in this report, such as valuable insights into the mobile money landscape, growth trends, emerging opportunities, and user behavior, can enable them to identify potential market segments, develop new products and services, and refine their business strategies to capitalize on the industry's growth and evolution. You can read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/d82jNc5p At FITSPA Uganda, we are thrilled about our collaboration with GSMA because it will empower our members to attract more investment and create innovative quality solutions that directly address customers' pain points, thus empowering their businesses and personal lives.
