In a recent session with Paddle's CMO, Andrew Davies, he shared pricing and packaging insights based on the company's work with thousands of software businesses and market analysis. So, what did we learn? Current market - We saw some early signs of stabilisation in the macro environment for software companies over the past 4-5 months within pricing driven by the reactivation of previously churned customers. In 2023, growth was mainly driven by reductions in churn rather than new customer acquisition. Value metrics - Choose the right value metric(s) for pricing, which should correlate with customer growth, and value received, and be simple to understand. Pricing experiments - Regular pricing experiments (ideally quarterly) correlate with higher average revenue per user (ARPU). Pricing committee - Encourage setting up a pricing committee or dedicate someone internally who owns pricing to regularly review and experiment with pricing strategies. Packaging - The trend is moving towards offering more plan options and competitive free trials of premium tiers. Add-ons - Extracting high-value, niche features as add-ons can help monetise without raising overall prices. Multi-product strategy - Add-ons can be a stepping stone towards becoming a multi-product company, which can drive significant growth. Term length - Encouraging longer-term commitments, especially after customers have experienced value, can increase lifetime value. Thank you to Andrew and the other presenters including Paddle's Tharshan Thavaharan, Aria's Tom Lamb, Thirdfort's Neil Mullane, Token.io's Ronnie d'Arienzo, Billhop's Tashi Gauffin and Crezco's Ralph Rogge and David Schilperoort for a comprehensive overview of modern pricing strategies. 👏 #Payments #Pricing #Software #Insights #MarketAnalysis
