As a Farnborough business, AALTO is proud to be based at the historic home of British aerospace. During #FIA2024 we welcome several suppliers, partners and customers to the Kelleher Building – the home of the solar-powered, stratospheric Zephyr. We had the opportunity this week to host Guillaume Faury, Chief Executive Officer at Airbus, to discuss our recent progress as a business and the beginning of our flight programme this summer. #AALTO #Zephyr #TheFutureIsStratospheric

AALTO reposted this
We’ve granted a Design Organisation Approval (DOA) to AALTO ✅ This is the first-ever approval issued for a High Altitude Platform Station manufacturer in the UK. As part of the DOA, we led an initial review of AALTO which included an audit compassing the Company’s procedures, facilities and competency of its design team. This emphasises our commitment to making the UK a key destination for aviation innovators. #FIA2024 #aerospace #innovation

Today marks an important step for the future of solar-powered, stratospheric flight. During Farnborough International Air Show, AALTO has announced that it is the first UK-based HAPS company to secure a Design Organisation Approval (DOA) from the UK Civil Aviation Authority. This is a critical step to secure a Type Certification for the latest Zephyr 8 aircraft. AALTO and the UK CAA leadership continue to work together closely on the development, and regulation of HAPS technology. ✈️ It’s shaping up to be a busy week at #FIA2024 for AALTO. We’ve welcomed a range of partners to the home of Zephyr at the Kelleher Building, next to the Air Show grounds. 🇯🇵 🇬🇧 Today our Leadership Team led by Samer Halawi had the opportunity to host the UK’s Ambassador to Japan, Julia Longbottom, for a tour of the facility. The visit follows the news of our investment from a consortium of Japanese businesses, including Space Compass Corporation and NTT DOCOMO. #AALTO #Zephyr #TheFutureIsStratospheric

Zephyr returns to flight season 📆✈ On 31 May 2024, AALTO completed a successful launch, test and landing from the Yuma Proving Ground, Arizona, of its Instrumented Zephyr Test Vehicle, IZTV – a dedicated Zephyr test aircraft – equipped with newly developed advance flight control laws. This milestone marks the beginning of this year’s comprehensive flight season and the completion of successful testing. This latest testing increases the tropospheric robustness of Zephyr at low altitudes, a layer of the atmosphere which has previously presented challenges to operational HAPS. In line with AALTO’s commitment to continuously improving performance, Zephyr’s advanced flight control laws and testing are valuable as it opens extended operational capabilities. Our focus now turns to experimental flights to be launched from our AALTOPORT in Kenya over the coming months, the first permanent launch and landing location for Zephyr globally.
