We spotted these beautiful bikes out and about in the sunshine this week. Looking majestic, but very difficult to ride 🤣, seeing these bikes made us think how far bike designs have come. The Penny Farthing was developed in the 1870s when bicycle technology was still in its early stages. The idea of a larger front wheel was to achieve greater speed, believing each rotation covered more ground, allowing riders to travel faster! The first Penny Farthings were made entirely of metal, from the frame to the wheels. Riding a Penny Farthing required a huge amount of skill and balance, not to mention the practicality of mounting and dismounting the very high wheel. As bicycle technology has advanced the introduction of the safety bicycle, which featured two equally sized wheels, pneumatic tyres and a chain-driven rear wheel provided a more comfortable and stable riding experience 😊 Can you imagine what would Penny Farthing riders think of the range of bike designs available today, from sleek fast road bikes to the new age of electric bikes? #bikehistory #bicycles

What an amazing article about cycling and football! I have often thought about how to bring Bikeable to football clubs and many other varied businesses. Hospitality provides our usual client base but there’s no reason the model can’t apply to other industries. Well done Brentford Football Club on this amazing service. Having been to many sporting events over the years I can appreciate the long walk there and even longer one home (especially given I’m usually supporting the losing side. No names). At Bikeable we are in currently in discussion with a small business that I’d never have considered approaching for a cycling solution (more details to come). Is there any way you could incorporate cycle friendly services or infrastructure into your business?
