We've seen thousands of successful candidates go through onboarding at a new organisation - this is what good onboarding looks like: 👋 Stay in touch regularly between appointing someone and their start day The gap between signing a contract and starting a new role is a nerve-wracking time for new starters. Keep in touch with them regularly to update them on your onboarding plans and answer any of their questions. 💻 Get your new starter's IT set up in advance There are very few roles in charities, membership or education sector organisations that don't need IT. Getting accounts, access and equipment ready to go on day one helps to set your new team member up for success. 📆 Organise the onboarding programme before your new starter arrives Having a clear, well planned onboarding programme will help your new starter to feel supported and confident from day one. 💚 Stay positive Every organisation has issues. If you focus all your conversations with your new starter on what isn't great about your workplace, you risk chipping away at their energy and motivation. Focus on the good stuff and how you're going to work with them to make things even better. 🔮 Talk about long term plans Get excited about what the future could look like. Setting out the organisation's vision and how your new starter fits into it will help them imagine themselves in the role for the long term. 🫣 Don't make it cringey! Is there anyone who actually enjoys being paraded around the office and introduced to people whose names they forget instantly? Consider ditching the office walkaround and organise a more informal lunch or cuppa and a slice of cake instead. --- Image description: seven image slides cover the headline points from the caption. Could flexible working be the answer to the charity sector's recruitment problems? 👀 We already knew that 60% of the candidates we support at Charity People were looking for flexible working options. 💡 But we wanted to know how this compared to the sector more broadly, so we polled our 52,000 followers on National Flexible Working Day. More than 1,000 of you responded (thank you). 💚 76% of you said that having flexible working as an option when you are applying for a role was extremely important and 20% said it was important. LinkedIn polls may not meet quantitative research standards, but its pretty clear that the majority of people working in the sector want to work flexibly. Charities not offering flexible working options could be missing out on really talented candidates. --- Image description: the image shows a screenshot of the LinkedIn poll referred to in the caption. In addition to the results mentioned above, 3% of poll respondents answered that the option for flexible working was not important to them and 1% answered 'other' and commented. #FlexibleWorking #CharitySector #Nonprofits

Maya Bhose, Founder of The Well Placed, shares some tips for recruiters assessing a CV with a gap...💡 Maya says, "I have several gaps on my CV. One was when I decided to live in an Italian village to finish a house renovation, brush up my language skills and become part of the community 💚 One was to be with my daughter 👧 Another was to study and enjoy Paris 🇫🇷 Three of the happiest and most memorable periods of my life. I didn’t stop learning. I didn’t stop engaging my brain. Every experience is valuable and teaches you something about life that you can transfer to the workplace. When you see a gap on someone’s CV ask them about the experience. What did they learn? How will their new employer benefit from this?" Maya's top tips for hiring managers assessing CVs with career breaks: 1️⃣ Don’t discount a CV because of a career break – you could be missing out on a hugely talented individual. 3️⃣ Look at underlying skills and experience as well as some of the transferable skills and experience they may have gained during their career break. If the foundations and solid pre-break experience are there, the majority will be able to get up to date v quickly in role. 4️⃣ Don’t discount a CV if they appear overqualified for your role at first sight. Let them explain why they’re interested in the role – some returners are looking to return at a more junior level because it fits their circumstances now at this stage in their life – and the recruiter will end up getting a fantastically talented person in role. At Charity People we don't mind the gap on your CV, we're interested in everything you can bring to a role - beyond a list of your previous jobs. --- Image description: the text on the image reads, "we don't mind the gap and neither should you." A forest green graphic shows a person stepping over a gap to board a train. An arrow points upwards to the gap. #CVGaps #RecruitmentTips #CharityJobs

We get asked this a lot: How long will the recruitment process take? ⏰ Working with a recruitment agency can save you some time. ⏰ We'll take on the lengthy process of shortlisting, for example. ⏰ And we're confident that your chances of finding the right candidate are increased (so you don't have to go out again) But it can still take a while - we'd say 6-8 weeks is a reasonable expectation. --- Image description: the image is a graphic with a lime green background. The cost of living crisis has made it harder to live and work in expensive cities, like London. We're interested to find out what you think a realistic salary should be for someone in an entry level role in the charity sector in London. 🤔 We're asking about London because it's the most expensive city to live in, but we recruit for roles based in lots of locations across the UK and remotely. 🌍 #CostOfLivingCrisis #LondonWages #EntryLevelRoles #CharitySector
