  • Next in CJCT's Project Spotlight series, we're featuring Candle House and our Granary Wharf masterplan. One of the most iconic developments in Leeds, the 23 storey Candle House provides 160 apartments within a strong cylindrical form which enlivens the city's skyline, standing out both architecturally and structurally through its unusual circular shape and 'twisting' composition of brickwork and window pattern. The wider Granary Wharf masterplan additionally incorporates Waterman's Place and the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel, set within 2 acres of high-quality public realm. The stunning trio of buildings complement each other in form and materiality with brick facades that are sympathetic to the qualities of the Granary Wharf viaduct and industrial precedents of warehouse and canal side architecture.

Pleasure attending Cavendish's breakfast event in Leeds this morning. The city is on the cusp of change with mass transit and an abundance of development on the horizon; it's great to see such a progressive authority engaging so positively with the private sector! Thanks Kevin Whitmore for the invite.

An early start today for team Cavendish at our invitation only breakfast with the Leader and Deputy Leader of Leeds City Council. My thanks to Councillors James Lewis and Jonathan Pryor for giving up their time. Really positive discussions about keeping momentum for investment in Leeds, opportunities following a Labour Government, focus on affordable housing and sustainability. #politics #planning #engagement #partnership Sean Fielding Sophie Rennie Brett Radley Chris Procter Ben Lascelles Rob Marsden Liz Wells MRTPI Nolan Tucker Harriet Parker Ian Emmerson Richard Frudd David Sweeting Adam Russell

  • A great article from BTR News recognising our achievement in the London Construction Awards. Hove Gardens is the impressive redevelopment of a former industrial site for Watkin Jones Group, providing 216 new homes and 2,000 sqm retail space just a short walk away from Hove Station. Delivered by RG Group, the scheme saw CJCT make considerable effort in ensuring that the outlook of each residential unit is aligned with the level expected of a new, high-quality residential development: the vast majority of homes have been designed as dual aspect, maximising light for residents and whilst simultaneously providing seafront views for the serenity of coastal living. urbanbubble

  • 𝐂𝐉𝐂𝐓 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭: 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐌𝐒𝐂𝐏 Completed just before the end of 2015, CJCT's MSCP for the University of Leeds sits on the southern precinct of the city centre campus. Providing 607 car parking spaces, the scheme completely redeveloped a brownfield site: formerly used as part of the university's car parking provision, the development of a MSCP was undeniably a more efficient use for the site. Externally, metallic square shields are imaginatively designed to form an undulating panel arrangement to mimic the double curve of the scheme's original concept. Each square consists of 2 high points and 2 low points on opposite corners, separated by 600mm, generating three-dimensional relief. Adjacent corners share a node point, allowing individual shields to work together to create a single coherent undulating surface which has been designed to achieve the free area required for passive, natural ventilation. The University of Leeds MSCP possesses a sense of quality and permanence, a transparency and character which engages with both the campus and the wider city.

  • Continuing the week with more awards shortlistings, we’re proud to share that Hove Gardens is a finalist in the London Construction Awards for the Architectural Design of the Year. The redevelopment of a former industrial site adjacent to the train station, Hove Gardens has delivered a 216-home urban oasis just a stone’s throw away from Hove’s idyllic seafront. The scheme sets high standards as an exemplar Build-to-rent development and we’re hopeful the positive impact the scheme has had on activating the site and surrounding area is recognised at the awards ceremony. Architecturally, we have crafted a scheme that seamlessly marries modern aesthetics with the town’s historic charm, with the façade composition derived from the local building typologies within the local area: the narrow, slender forms are evident throughout the wider context and have informed the architectural vernacular of the scheme, which is also carried through into specific details and material choices incorporating buff brick, white stone banding and fluted glazed terracotta accents. • We’re excited to share that The Junction has been shortlisted for the Best Regeneration Project (100+ Homes) in the Inside Housing Development Awards 2024! The 665-home development has completely transformed the Grade II listed Monk Bridge viaduct into Yorkshire’s first high-line landscape forming the centrepiece of a new urban quarter: the vast structure had previously sat disused and increasingly decrepit since 1967, but now features a fully accessible landscape which forms the heart of the neighbourhood. In the early stages of the development, CJCT recognised that the viaduct not only provided a reminder of the rich industrial history of the city, but offered a nationally significant urban regeneration opportunity with the listed structure at its heart. The Junction provides a blueprint for the creative re-use of our region’s abundance of post-industrial structures and the regeneration benefits they can offer. It has already made an enormous impact on both Leeds and the wider county, and CJCT are grateful to have this achievement recognised on a national scale. Well done to all those involved! • On Friday, we hosted our annual summer cycle through the picturesque Surrey and Sussex countryside, joined by colleagues and collaborators on a challenging yet enjoyable route. We were certainly spurred on by the bliss summer sun, pedalling alongside one another up and down the rolling hills passing ubiquitous oast houses, picturesque villages and castles along the way. Great participation again this year and strong riding from everyone, especially up some of the more challenging hills. A rewarding day out and fantastic to be cycling and working with such a tremendous group of people.
