On the 1st day of Rural Housing Week we discovered our Rural Services Team cannot get a good photo to save their lives 😁 Thankfully, they're as good at what they do as they are at laughing at each other 🤣 Kelly (centre) is the Rural Services Lead and runs our Community Buildings Advice service. We have experts in funding, governance, volunteer recruitment, future-proofing and much more to ensure village halls remain the hub of your community. Nickie (right) runs our Oil Buying Club which sources the best prices for its members. Your heating needs may not be a priority right now but at this time of year we see a reduction in fuel prices and Nicki can help you take advantage of that. Your future self will thank you! Craig (left) is a new team member in a new role for Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin; Rural Housing Enabler. The Rural Services Network (RSN) has long championed the cause, emphasising that rural areas, which comprise 40% of constituencies, are critical to the national economy and deserve tailored solutions to their unique challenges." Affordable Housing Crisis in Rural Communities: A Call for Political Action - Rural Services Network (rsnonline.org.uk). This article from the Rural Services Network adeptly lays out some of the economic and social impacts of the affordable housing crisis. It's something Community Resource are extremely aware of as it comes up time and again when we're out in the community and plays a heavy part in people's health and wellbeing. As such we're really pleased to announce a new team member and new role for Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin which we hope will enable the growth of affordable housing in the rural areas that need it. We're happy to welcome Craig Bethel as our new Rural Housing Enabler, pictured below with Kelly Walker our new Rural Services Team Lead. Part of a wider Rural Housing Enabler programme overseen by Actions with Communities in Rural England (ACRE), there are now 34 RHE's in post across England. As you would expect from Community Resource, this is a community engagement role first and foremost and Craig will be working closely with parish councils and communities as well as the local authority and housing associations to ensure that progress is made against affordable housing needs.
