Cooke in the Community | Engineering in Aquaculture Our engineering team were delighted to help inspire and engage with students at the SmartSTEMs event at Kirkwall Grammar School in #Orkney. Young people, aged between 10 to 14 years, got stuck in and showed a great deal of interest in the types of technology our Cooke Scotland engineers regularly work with. We had lots of activities for them to try, including controlling remote control tugs, seeing our real workboat models, learning how an engine operates, and having a go at connecting up the navigation light systems. STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) events such as this are a great way for young people to gain a wider understanding of the opportunities available to them and the different routes that can take them there. https://bit.ly/3PxdZhh

Careers with Cooke | Sea Site Vacancies, Orkney We are looking for a full-time permanent Inshore Deckhand for our Stronsay sea sites in Orkney. This role follows a shift pattern of two weeks on and two weeks off. We also have a position available on our Scapa Flow sea sites for a Site Assistant. This position is for 40 hrs per week, one weekend in three. Duties for the two roles will include feeding, grading, fish husbandry, harvesting and general site maintenance. Cooke in the Community | Orkney School Activity Aid Bringing positive experiences and opportunities to young people in those areas where we operate is a significant aspect of our Cooke Community Benefit Fund. The Kirkwall Grammar School in Orkney applied to Cooke to help subsidise the activities planned for pupils towards the end of term, making more of the activities free or low-cost to every student. They purchased mandatory first-aid kits for taking out on school trips which can now be used year after year. There was a fantastic itinerary planned for school pupils which included activities such as an Edinburgh theatre trip, sailing, pottery painting, vinyl printing graphic design, African cooking, nature walks and fishing - just to name a few!
