Enhanced microbes for sustainable agriculture.

About us

At CroBio, we're on a mission to reshape the future of agriculture by harnessing the power of enhanced microbes. Our vision is clear: to provide an environmentally sustainable solution that not only addresses the pressing global issue of agricultural drought, but also contributes to mitigating the effects of climate change through innovative carbon sequestration strategies. In our quest for a greener tomorrow, we've found a remarkable ally beneath our feet – the soil itself. It's within this intricate ecosystem that we uncover the key to redirecting carbon and driving positive change.

Last week - we were invited to take a look around the AYA Earth Partners Hub in São Paulo - the first and largest business ecosystem dedicated to accelerating Brazil’s regenerative and zero-carbon economy. This innovative hub creates a space for Brazil’s game-changing, climate-tech disruptors to meet, collaborate and connect - all with the aim of working towards Brazil’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2030. As #CroBio seeks to establish itself and expand within South America, we look forward to working alongside the many individuals and exciting companies leading the way in revolutionising climate-tech. 🌿

Our Land, Our Future - #GenerationRestoration for World Environment Day 🌍 Unsustainable consumption patterns are resulting in pollution, waste and the loss of biodiversity. Over 1/5th of the world’s land is degraded, which affects 40% of the world’s population - that’s roughly around 3.2 billion people! While humanity depends on the health of our #planet, the combination of #pollution and climate chaos is creating damaging long term effects. These unsustainable practices are resulting in what’s known as the “triple planetary crisis”, which consists of:  🚨 the crisis of #climatechange,  🚨 the crisis of nature and #biodiversity loss, including #desertification,  🚨 the crisis of #pollution and waste. World Environment Day, held every year on the 5th June, has been led by the UN Environment Programme (#UNEP) since 1973. The day aims to raise awareness about major environmental problems, including pollution, climate change and more - and invites millions of people to take action in order to protect the #environment and planet. Hosted in Saudi Arabia this year, the World Environment Day theme focuses on “land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience.” You need to check out these amazing companies who are focussing on innovations in these areas to work towards restoring the environment -  🌱👨🌾 AgriLedger - Using blockchain solutions, Agriledger is at the forefront of driving a transformative shift towards a more sustainable, equitable, and efficient agricultural sector. 🌎🚰 CroBio® - Aiming to create an environmentally sustainable solution to alleviate global agricultural drought and help reverse the effects of climate change, through durable carbon drawdown.   🏜💧 Desert Control - have developed a patented non-intrusive process to reverse desertification, rehabilitate degraded soils and reduce water and fertiliser consumption 🌳 💚 Sand to Green - aiming to transform agriculture and cultivate the desert to fight against climate change 🐝 🌻 Pivotal Future - building a future where nature and business are in balance – by incentivising the regeneration of biodiversity at scale. Do you know of another startup who is working to address #landrestoration, #desertification or #drought resilience? Give them a shoutout in the comments below to recognise the work they’re doing! By restoring ecosystems, we can help reverse biodiversity loss by 2030, in line with the Global Biodiversity Framework. -- #metta #worldenvironmentday

Warwickshire law firm Wright Hassall LLP completes £1.25m fundraise for biotech firm 🪙✅ A Midlands law firm has successfully completed a £1.25 million seed fundraising round on behalf of an innovative soil regeneration company aiming to alleviate global agricultural drought. Wright Hassall acted on behalf of CroBio® to close the seed funding round, led by environmental charity The Grantham Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, with investment from SOSV, Ponderosa Ventures and Catapult Ventures Group. CroBio, based in Macclesfield, uses a biotechnology approach to introduce specially-enhanced bacteria to plant roots which produces the sponge-like material cellulose. A total of 34 per cent of global crop yields are lost each year to drought, and this innovative technology significantly increases soil’s water holding capacity, enhancing plant resilience in drought conditions and improving agricultural sustainability. CroBio is pleased to announce the completion of a $1.55 million Seed Round! The round was led by The Grantham Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, with participating investors – SOSV and Ponderosa Ventures, and with continued support from Catapult Ventures Group. We are grateful to this group of investors who are committed to planetary health and sustainable futures, and who will advance CroBio's goal of enhancing global drought resilience in agriculture. CroBio's innovative approach involves using microbes to create sponge-like materials around crop roots, which also contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. “This funding will allow us to conduct field trials with key strategic partners and expand our geographical reach. Agtech promises to be one of the leading movements in addressing the global impact of climate change and achieving worldwide food security. Wayne and I are immensely proud to be part of the broader community dedicated to advancing biological products for this critical mission.” Ross Mulhall, PhD Mulhall, Co-founder & CSO of CroBio. "Droughts are a critically overlooked feedback loop exacerbating climate change. We are excited to support CroBio's mission to improve drought resilience in agriculture." On this #WorldWaterDay, CroBio is leading the way in the fight against drought. By 2050, global food production will need to be increased by 50% to feed more than the 9 billion people projected to live on our planet. To do this - we need to improve the productivity of our soils. CroBio's mission will solve this challenge, increasing soil water retention, and regenerating agricultural land. 💧
