Devro Sandy Run recently organised industrial confined space training for the maintenance team. Safety Manager, Matt Busenlehner tells us about the experience: “Recently some of the Sandy Run Maintenance team went to the South Carolina Fire Academy to take the Industrial Confined Space Class. This class falls under OSHA Regulation 29 CFR 1910.146 and due to certain requirements placed on general industry having permits required for confined spaces, we must inform employees of PRCS and provide training which is why we sent them to this class and are required to do a refresher every year. The first day consisted of a PowerPoint and general rules and requirements. The second day was all hands on and scenarios covered were both vertical and horizontal entry and rescues in confined spaces. We also touched on OSHA 1910.147 Lockout tag out, reading air monitors and filling out confined space permits. This prepares us for when there is a confined space and Devro can fill in as the standby team. Collagen is a very common, naturally occurring long-fibrous protein. It has been used for many years as the primary raw material for various applications. These include uses in the food industry, in particular in the manufacture of sausage casings and food film. When used to make casing or film, it is usually, but not exclusively, obtained from animal skins and mainly bovine (beef) though other animals can also be used, such as pigs, sheep, poultry and fish. To meet the demand for professional talent at #Devro, a strategic co-operation agreement on talent supply was signed between government, Nantong Science and Technology Vocational College and Devro Nantong in 2023.
