Fairhurst are proud to have played our part in helping John Lewis Partnership secure a Planning Consent to construct 353 apartments at the Waitrose site in Bromley. Working with John Lewis and the Build to Rent (BTR) team, Fairhurst provided Civil, Structural and Geo-Environmental services on this challenging inner city development which will involve the construction of multi-storey towers over the existing Waitrose store and car park. The development will not only bring much needed housing to the area, but it will enhance the town and provide high quality public space and a brand new Waitrose food store. Congratulations to the BTR team and all involved in this huge milestone. Fairhurst Landscape team are delighted to hear that plans for 1,260 new homes in Hartlepool look set to go ahead after receiving approval from Hartlepool Borough Council.   The landscape team are pleased to have provided design services on behalf of Persimmon Homes for the first phase of 316 homes as part of a reserved matters application.   The landscape proposals for this site consist of in-plot streetscapes as well as large open space areas wrapping around the development to the east and south. Within the residential area attractive streetscapes will be characterised by hedgerow planting, street trees and ornamental planting alongside amenity grass. There is a north / south green spine to the west of the development that will be a key pedestrian / cycle link, it will also accommodate a play area and provide a green buffer to the west of the site.   The south west open space area is primarily for ecological and biodiversity enhancements. Planting comprises of retained and proposed woodland, appropriate marginal planting for the pond, clumps of native shrub planting and swathes of wildflower. The North Shields Transport Hub has received the Low Carbon Project of the Year Award presented by Construction News. The awards took place on the 11th of July 2024 at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel in Mayfair where Willmott Dixon Construction received the trophy. Completed at the end of 2023, the North Shields Transport Hub is the first development by North Tyneside Council to achieve net zero carbon, making it one of the first of its kind in the UK. The improvements made to the design led to the building delivering half the embodied carbon compared to the original project. This transport hub was designed to achieve net zero operational carbon by reducing energy demand while also integrating renewable energy. Fairhurst’s multidisciplinary engineering services ensured a coordinated approach from concept design to construction. Early collaboration with NAPPER ARCHITECTS, the main contractor and sub-contractors allowed the development of a lightweight steel frame with a bespoke lattice glulam roof and the identification of the materials suitable to reuse which ultimately led to a reduction from Stage 1 to Stage 5 of the project. We are proud to be part of this project team and to achieve net zero in this first-of-its-kind sustainable transport hub.
