Non-profit Organization Management

We redistribute surplus food to charities that turn it into meals. We are doers. We are a community. We change lives.

About us

FareShare is the UK’s national network of charitable food redistributors, made up of 18 independent organisations. Together, we take good quality surplus food from right across the food industry and get it to nearly 8,500 frontline charities and community groups. The food we redistribute is nutritious and good to eat. It reaches charities across the UK, including school breakfast clubs, older people’s lunch clubs, homeless shelters, and community cafes. Every week we provide enough food to create over two million meals for vulnerable people. Today we are launching our manifesto ahead of the General Election, calling on the next Government to commit to delivering more surplus food to those in need. Titled “Where’s the Food? Strengthening Communities Through Surplus Food Redistribution”, the manifesto lays out measures to incentivise businesses to redistribute more of their surplus, proposals to support the redistribution sector and strengthen communities in the process, and a plan for a wider food system reset. We are calling for: 💚 Subsidies for farmers to cover redistribution costs 💚 Tax benefits for businesses donating surplus food 💚 Mandatory food waste reporting 💚 Clear guidelines for ‘good samaritans’ on food donation safety 💚 Sustained funding for farm level food redistribution 💚 A UK-wide plan to end charitable food aid 💚 Resources for local food waste and food security projects By working together, government, the third sector, and industry can overcome the challenges to redistributing surplus – and ensure more food reaches the people who need it. Today is the King’s Speech, and our Public Affairs lead Ali Gourley takes us through what the new government should do in the next 100 days to get more food to people who need it. Secretary of State for Defra Steve Reed has announced one of his top priorities is to create a roadmap to a zero waste Britain, which is excellent news – here’s a good place to start!

Join Nancy, a member of our Produce Team, on her visit to Monaghan Mushrooms' Langford site. It was an amazing opportunity to see how mushrooms are grown, picked, and packed. Throughout our partnership, by diverting mushrooms to us they have prevented 524 tonnes of embedded C02e from going to waste, and prevented 177 million litres of embedded water from going to waste!    Thank you so much Monaghan Mushrooms for your incredible partnership and helping us get nutritious and tasty mushrooms to communities across the UK! 💚

On Friday 28th June, FareShare fielded a squad of 10 players who featured in the Arla Foods national football Competition, held at TNS Stadium in Shropshire ⚽ The FareShare squad consisted of representatives from the FareShare’s Commercial Team, our Regional Partners and FareShare Go! Even though FareShare didn't have a win during the competition, the team had a brilliant day as it was an opportunity to have fun playing whilst getting to know many from the Arla team. During the post-match presentations, Chris Jones, Commercial Manager at FareShare, talked about our work and this has led to many new contacts linked to further surplus food. Thank you so much Arla Foods for inviting us to join, the team had an amazing day and we are so grateful for your partnership 💚

📣 240 Yorkshire Building Society colleagues took on an incredible Yorkshire Walking Challenge and fundraised a phenomenal total of £48,000 💚 👟 113 colleagues walked for 10 miles to complete Pen-y-Ghent, and 127 colleagues did the entire Yorkshire 3 peaks which totalled up to 26 miles. Some colleagues woke up at 3am, some chose to run the distance, and one colleague even went dressed as a dinosaur! Every colleague was there for the same reason, to help raise money for FareShare towards the amazing £1 million fundraising target that YBS have set as our partner. We are grateful to every single person who took on the challenge, gave their time, , and kept smiling through the British summer weather. Thank you so much Yorkshire Building Society. A big thank you to Jo Bottomley who worked behind the scenes to make the day happen, it could not have happened without your coordination! 🤝
