Understanding our students and their priorities, especially when it comes to sustainability, is integral to delivering spaces that meet their needs. We have worked with Utopi on their latest #ResidentReport to get under the skin of some of the key topics that are important to students today. Most of all, its about working with students to achieve our sustainability goals together. We achieve this by working with our global operating partner Yugo on their #LiveYourBestLife programme. At GSA, we're proud to be able to give people opportunities to develop their careers in new directions. This week, we spoke to Brad Collingwood, who began his career in operations managing one of our London properties, before moving into the Investment Management team. "After four years of working directly with our student customers, I had the opportunity to join the Investment Management team working with GSA’s discretionary Fund, GSA Coral, supporting investors and the implementation of the Fund’s growth strategy.   “Moving from operations to Investment Management has been a fantastic opportunity. We are delighted to have received fitwel ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ certification for our most recent student housing development, Yugo St Crispin’s House, Norwich. The property is one of just 15 multi-family residences across the UK to have received three stars and rates within the top 10% of fitwel certified properties globally.   The certification reflects both the strength of Yugo St Crispin’s House’s sustainability credentials during the design and development phase, and Yugo’s ability to put #sustainableliving at the heart of their student offering, through their unique brand pillars—YugoEco, YuPro, and YuGrow.   Originally a 1970’s office block, Yugo St Crispin’s House is an example of how outdated buildings can be repurposed, refurbished, and extended to support the next generation as they embark on their higher education journey.    By retaining the existing structure, the project saved 4,700 metric tons of embedded carbon — an offset equivalent to planting roughly 188,000 new trees. Thank you to The Class Foundation for hosting an insightful and informative day in #Milan yesterday. An opportunity to tour the latest properties from Collegiate AC and CampusX and hear from the full breadth of stakeholders - from developers, owners, and operators of student housing, including Yugo Joe Persechino, to the universities, the professors and regional government members who play an integral role in the future of the sector. There is clearly a huge opportunity for the #PBSA sector in #Italy, with an average provision rate of around 4%, an ever-increasing number of international students and a more mobile domestic student cohort. The huge supply-demand imbalance and subsequent strong rental growth makes for a compelling investment case in this nascent market. But to ensure affordability for students, the focus needs to be on increasing supply across a variety of product type at a range of price points. It was encouraging to hear from participating universities and municipalities that they recognise this, and the role that public-private partnerships can play in delivery of new homes for students. With our development expertise and track record of establishing the sector in new markets, we're watching Italy and the opportunities it presents closely. #globalstudentaccommodation #studenthousing #studentaccommodation #students #development
