Global Upheaval Presents Electronic Component Supply Chain Challenge   Some interesting analysis coming out of the recent Fusion Worldwide 2024 Report this year.   Ongoing conflicts in Israel and Ukraine are tipped to pose significant threats to the #electronic component supply chain because electronic devices require manufacturing and expertise from across the globe.   In January, it was reported that #Tesla and #Volvo would suspend some production in Europe due to a shortage of components sparked by attacks on shipping in the Red Sea, while increased tensions between China, the US, and Taiwan are impacting supply, investment, and consumer confidence further afield.   Despite this, #OEMs can protect themselves from the fluctuating availability and price volatility that arise from global suppliers, particularly in the Far East, by embracing #technology that compliments their existing manufacturing processes and allows for the reuse and repair of electronic components.   Emma Armstrong commented: “The fact reusable electronics reduce reliance on uncertain global supply chains shouldn’t be a mystery to manufacturers. Current supply shortages caused by #geopolitical issues are far from the only disruption of concern.   “The global take-make-waste approach means that electronic components are only going to continue to increase in cost until they are no longer available. OEMs therefore need to rethink how they manufacture their products.   “Components are designed to last at least 25 years and we shouldn’t be simply crushing or burning them when we’ve spent so much energy and cost to mine and make them. To mitigate any undue additional pressure as a result of volatile supply chains, the electronics industry needs to turn away from throwaway tech and embrace products designed to be modular, replaceable, and easily disassembled.”   #Manufacturers #SupplyChain #Electronics

Sustainable electronics leader In2tec has welcomed new legislation that gives Scottish politicians and local authorities the tools needed to increase reuse and recycling rates – and create jobs. The Circular Economy Bill passed in June 2024 will give ministers the power to set local recycling targets, restrict the disposal of unsold consumer goods, and place charges on single-use items. Emma Armstrong, Sustainable Electronics Ambassador at In2tec, which has developed the ReUSE®, and ReCYCLE™ processes to revolutionise electronics recyclability, said: “It’s fantastic to see lawmakers putting their money where their mouth is to implement concrete measures to tackle electronic waste. “Modernising and improving waste and recycling services is vital to the UK’s net-zero efforts.” #CircularEconomy #SustainableElectronics #Ewaste

Today, In2tec’s Neil Armstrong, Emma Armstrong and Dr. Mark Hudman PhD. will be interviewed for a documentary about pioneering sustainable technologies. Economy 4.0 will take a deep dive into the company’s ReUSE® and ReCYCLE™ technology, which demonstrates how manufacturers can remove components from existing electronics and reuse vital materials. Emma said: “I’m keen to talk about how the electronics industry desperately needs to abandon throwaway tech and adopt a circular approach to product design, resources, manufacturing, and end-of-life management. “The current approach wastes the resources needed for future innovation, impacts the health of some of the world’s most vulnerable societies, and contributes to destructive climate change. Neil adds “Fortunately, there are significant economic benefits to repairing and reusing electronics and this platform allows us to demonstrate the opportunities our technologies offer.”

Today is World Environment Day Ecosystems worldwide are in danger, with vital natural habitats facing a critical point. The UN Convention to Combat Desertification warns that nearly half of the planet's land is degraded, impacting billions of people, emphasising the urgent need to restore and protect ecosystems to meet the Sustainable Development Goals. Our reliance on technology has transformed our lives, but it comes at a cost. It leads us to adopt a linear approach to purchasing and discarding, leaving behind a trail of waste in our wake. Instead, we mine for the key raw materials needed for electronics. In 2021, a staggering 2.8 billion tonnes of metals were extracted worldwide, primarily for the production of electronics and it is only growing. Astonishingly, 44% of all active mines are situated within forested regions. This unfortunate reality has led to severe deforestation in countries such as Indonesia, Brazil, Ghana, and Suriname. These four nations alone account for a staggering 80% of global deforestation caused by industrial mining. Join In2tec in our battle to combat the rise in electronic waste and raw material extraction that is devastating our planet. Let's work together to restore the stunning ecosystems we once enjoyed. Check out In2tec’s ReUSE® and ReCYCLE™ technology that will help standardise global circular electronics to protect our world for future generations here: https://in2tec.com/reuse #WorldEnvironmentDay #GenerationRestoration

It has been a week since the team returned from Innovation Zero and we are still buzzing with excitement. To further promote our position as a leader in the sustainable electronics industry, our very own Sustainable Electronics Ambassador, Emma Armstrong, took to the stage. Emma shared insights into how the existing culture of disposability and material waste that helps drive the climate crisis can evolve into a reuse and recycling circular system – increasing profits for the supply chain whilst cutting costs for the consumer. It was then our privilege to showcase our ReUSE® and ReCYCLE™ technologies in action, comprised of closed-loop processes that allow manufacturers to remove components from existing electronics at the end of their useful life and reuse them as we protect the planet and future generations. Electronic waste is growing exponentially year on year since 2010, 62 billion kg of ewaste was generated in 2022. Increased usage, lack of repair choices, brief product lifespans, rising digitalisation, and insufficient ewaste disposal systems have surpassed the rise in formal and environmentally sound collection and recycling. This means only 22.3% is formally documented as recycled. It means globally we are only generating USD 28 Billion worth of secondary raw materials out of a maximum of USD 91 Billion. In2tec’s ReUSE® and ReCYCLE™ can play a crucial role in closing this disparity. For more in-depth info on our ReUSE® and ReCYCLE™ technology: https://in2tec.com/reuse
