Everyday Inclusion

About us

Established in May 2011, we are the UK's first and leading inclusion membership organisation for employers looking to build inclusive workplaces. With a membership of over 450 organisations and growing, we work in partnership with our members so that we can bring together best practice and cutting-edge thinking to promote innovation and support organisations to gain from the social and commercial benefits of inclusion. Working across the whole spectrum of inclusion, we also design and deliver training and consultancy solutions, offer CMI qualifications in Inclusion & Diversity and have our own accreditation, the Inclusive Employers Standard. We work through organisations advocating an approach that helps everyone understand that diversity is about them, and inclusion is their opportunity to add value and feel valued. Our approach is robust and practical, innovative and courageous. If you always do what you always did, you'll always get what you always got. Inclusive Employers was founded in 2011 and runs National Inclusion Week in September each year.

    Inspector at West Yorkshire Police

Really appreciative to colleagues from West Yorkshire Police who have put together the Cultural Awareness course, focusing on Black Heritage. Even more appreciative of the volunteers from the community, who provide their own lived experience and in their own time. In it's second year now and having already educated approximately 5500 of 11000 Officers/Staff, it includes members of the community with lived experience of interactions with the Police (sadly mainly poor), heritage, culture, history, trauma, music, food and more. A few words to describe the training...insightful, educational, uncomfortable - this being the operative word! With white privilege, oppression, microaggressions, language and behaviours are often the important details we miss due to ignorance or sadly in some cases, choose to ignore. Recently, when the men's England Team had to step up to take penalties in the Final, a colleague of black heritage passed comment that they were praying the black males who stepped up to take a penalty got it in the back of the net, because if they didn't, they knew what torrent of racist abuse would follow. That didn't even cross my mind, but why would it - in future, it absolutely will! Allyship is absolutely imperative, as is educating yourself on other cultures and lived experiences...when someone offers a lived experience, healthy challenge is acceptable where inquisition is the goal, not where you are minimising or ignoring the lived experience of that individual. Understand your privilege and take time to learn about other cultures...I have many books to read and films to watch now! Thanks also to Inclusive Employers for assisting with the course delivery but more importantly, Mark Morris for volunteering his time (again) to speak to us about his lived experience and interactions with The Police. We MUST do better! I'm just so disappointed I'm only just learning about black heritage now...in my 40's! This should have been in school!

Did you know that less than a quarter of disabled people disclose their disability at the recruitment stage? Many disabled people feel that disclosing their disability at the recruitment stage would put them at a disadvantage. This creates challenges for employers because: 🔴 It makes it difficult to give disabled employees the right support 🔴 Employees with hidden disabilities are at risk of experiencing burnout 🔴 It impacts the organisation’s ability to collect accurate diversity data That’s why organisations must make the workplace safe for disabled people and increase awareness of hidden disabilities. Read Addison Barnett’s blog to learn more about how to create safe workplaces for disabled employees: https://lnkd.in/ezw_4JNK #Inclusion #Diversity #Disability #Recruitment #Policy
