#Flashback. A photo taken exactly 14 years ago today of the construction of The Shard 💛 Designed by Renzo Piano, with Mace as the main contractor, construction of the Shard started on March 16th, 2009. Top-down construction was used, where foundations were dug at the same time as as the core was built up. By March 2010, the concrete core was rising. The photo shows the concrete core after four months. The concrete core topped out at the 72nd floor in early 2011. The Shard’s steel structure topped out on March 30th 2012, when its 66 metre, 500 tonne spire was winched into place. Practical completion of the 309.6 metre iconic skyscraper was achieved in November 2012.
